EDM Challenge # 117 - Something round

EDM # 115 - Drawing in A5 sketchbook - © Serena Lewis

This is my second EDM drawing now.......only 115 to go! lol

Challenge # 117 was to draw something round so I chose my round, orange-scented candle for the subject and I placed an imitation tigerlily beside it for added interest. I'm thoroughly enjoying the challenges.

  2. Thanks, Mikki! Drawing from life is so much harder than drawing from a photograph but I feel like I'm already improving which I'm really happy about.

  5. Show off! Including a flower for added interest! *lol* I do well to do one object, but you managed a lovely composition. Keep up the good work with your EDM challemges.

  6. Great drawing Serena, that flower is gorgeous I love it. And I love scented candles too, you got the three-dimensional aspect down exactly!

  12. I love spheres. Back when I was in school, and now, when I sit through (boring) meetings, I drew/draw and shade spheres to amuse myself.

    Yours looks wonderful! :)

  17. Well done, such depth in such a simple image.

I found your blog this evening while enjoying different art sites. You do some really lovely work and I envy your talent - I'm a writer myself.

I was wondering if you would be interested in taking part in our Paint Something "Good" Contest over at the Legends of Mernac for a chance to win $500. This contest is centered around a different theme word each month for the next year, with a winner every month. May's theme word is Fantasy.

I hope you'll enter! Great work!

  19. That's definitely round! Very delicate shading; the reflected light on the right of the candle is a nicely observed touch.

  22. Oh that is so beautifully done, Serena - would have liked to see it a bit bigger too (so I can see your line work, doncha know)

  23. Thank you, Sarah! I'm being careful with image sizes as I use the online Picasa/Blogger albums which have a limit but, if you want to see the sketches a little larger, check out my Picturetrail link in the Links section of my blog. I have created an album there for all my EDM challenges. :)

Thanks, Valerie! I think your ATCs are lovely. Yes, I have traded cards before. At the moment, I have a fair bit on my plate as we are in the process of having to move but, as soon as we're settled in the next place, I will let you know as I'd love to trade an ATC with you. :)
