Great Egret - Stage Three - Work In Progress (Final?)

It's been just over a week since I've posted to my blog. What a slacker I've been....well, not really, I've had a rough time of it with my eyes. They have been feeling very sore and strained since I set up the three computers so I haven't been able to stare at a monitor screen for too long because the glare starts causing my eyes to water. Thankfully, they are getting better, albeit slowly.

Today, I think I finished the Egret art card. See Stage Two here. I'm not sure if I'll tweak it a little more yet.

  7. It is very beautiful Serena. I know the feeling of not knowing if I want to do a little more or not. But what more could you do to make more beautiful? I love the semi-soft look. Colors are really neat too. I hope your eyes get better.

  10. The shadowing is beautiful, Serena, and you have him lit perfectly. Much detail for a small painting - just beautiful!

  13. Wow, this is beautiful! I like that glow in the background too. Do you find the pencils and the acrylics blend well together or are they used separatly - like foreground and background?

  16. Thanks, Felicity. :) Yes, I did the background with the coloured pencil and the egret in acrylics. The rocks are based roughly with coloured pencil and enhanced with acrylic.

Thanks, Jessica. :) I decided to call it finished.

Thanks, Bonny. :) I thought the dark background worked well too.

  20. This piece is just beautiful, I wish I was on the receiving side of your Artist trading card as this is such a beauty. I loved how you shared your progression from stage one to this the final stage. By the way how is your daughter and son doing after the accident???

  22. why do you need help with pencil? Have you ever read - Bet Borgenson books? She was the first to publish in USA, about using CPs. My first attempt at art school, my portfolio was mainly CP. And Graphite. The college still laughs at me about my first attempt art school.
I had no oil paints or canvases.
    Just paper of various brands.

Oh my iPhone would not let me have a bite of that cake. Did you make it. Loved the sleeping arrangements.

  23. What I find most fascinating is how small this card is! What a grand painting on such a small card! What are you going to do with it now that it is finished?

BTW, how are your daughter and her boyfriend doing after the accident?

  24. This is absolutely beautiful, Serena. I think the most difficult part of making art is when to decide that it is finally finished. I am sorry to hear about your eyes. I hope they are better now.

  25. Thanks, everyone. I so appreciate all your comments.

Greg & Kate - Michelle is still in a lot of pain and the doctor has given her until the end of March off work. He gave her a stronger pain medication but it kinda had her tripping so she quickly stopped taking it. She will ask for a different prescription when she goes back next week. Thanks for asking about her.

Kate - I'm hoping to sell the card on eBay or similar site. One of my goals for this year.

Sherrie - I love working with graphite and acrylics but coloured pencils are very new to me. I bought the Pavlova base pre-cooked and then decorated it myself. Pavlova is like a delicious meringue...crusty on the outer edge with a soft centre. Traditionally, it is decorated with fresh whipped cream, kiwi fruit, strawberries and passionfruit.

Luci - My eyes are still not 100% but they are much better than what they were. :)
