a photo a day - twilight - jan 3

i didn't venture outside today because the rain finally came....not heavy but better than nothing. it's been a mentally exhausting day with sorting a few computer issues so, after lunch, i decided to put my feet up and make a start on the book titled twilight by stephenie meyer. my daughter, michelle, loaned her copy to me after i first put her onto reading it, after i read about it on suzie's blog. michelle loved it and i'm fast becoming hooked myself.....so far, so good. it must be okay as i find myself eager to get back to it.

apart from liking non-fiction books on metaphysical/motivational stuff, i'm generally a huge dean koontz fan! i have read just about all of his books. i love his sense of humour and the fact that there is usually always a clever dog involved in the storyline.....gotta love that. funnily enough, i've never been a fan of stephen king books.

do you have a favourite author?

  1. hello! was passing by, nice blog.

yes, humor is a comfortable genre for the reader while it is extremely difficult while writing it. i love pg wodehouse. of the contemporary fiction writers, i enjoyed kiran desai's 'the inheritance of loss'. as for non fiction, i think barack obama has a unique sensibility in writing, which is absolutely delightful. his autobiography - 'dreams from my father' - is thoroughly enjoyable.

  4. I have remained stubbornly silent about the Twilight series for fear of getting stoned to death. :)

I am glad you're enjoying it, as many do. :)

I have several faves: Top Three recent:

1- The Book of Lost Things by John Connoly (fantasy-horror)

2- The Monster of Templeton by Lauren Groff (Gothic/historical mystery)

3- The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón (Historical Mystery)

I gobbled all three up in record time. I will be reading them again.

  5. I have seen so much about the Twilight series, my daughter and daughter-in-law have read them all. I haven't gotten into them as of yet. I keep picking them up and putting them down at the library. One day I may just take one home. I go in spirts of reading and haven't gotten back into, it seems I am either reading a Creative Journal book, rubber stamp magazine, Photoshop Creative that there is no time left. Oh to have more time in the day for all of these presuits. I really like the fact you have the book on your leg and that you are about to read. Nice shot.

  7. I love Alice Hoffman! I am also a poetry fan and Mary Oliver and Ted Kooser are a couple of my "modern" favorites. All time favorite book: Wuthering Heights. I have read it about 5 times and it never gets old to me.
    Peace and happy reading!

  8. Oh I so hope you enjoy Twilight! I hope it takes you away for a while and pulls you into its story. Disappearing from reality can be so much fun, for a while.

I love Alice Hoffman's earlier work like Probable Future and Practical Magic. Not so much her later stuff.

  10. Twilight to me is like bad fan fiction, typical mary sue story but I still enjoyed it lol

I was never really a Koontz fan, way too predictable. More of a King fan. Its funny how with a lot of people its one author or the other but hardly ever both :p

  11. Frist book that comes to mind and I use to read a lot...other than all my metaphysical books, I like the author of Walk Across China, Jenkins I think is the author. He wrote Walk Across America also and a few more.

    Enjoyed reading your post today.

  14. If you like a lot of dry wit and humor, try The Innocents Abroad by Mark Twain. It's really funny.

  15. Mmh, putting your feet up and reading a book. Love it. I have not read this book. Must look into it. I love books and have more than one favorite author. My first favorite author as a child was Enid Blyton.

  16. Too many fav authors to count!!! Nicholas Sparks is awesome, and I love this Quaker pastor named Philip Gulley who has written a whole series of books about a Quaker pastor in a small town that is hilarious! My all time fav modern author is Sue Monk Kidd, who wrote The Secret Life of Bees and The Mermaid Chair!

  17. Oh ho... you've been "bitten", LOL. I loved the series, but I confess... I can't bring myself to read the 4th book because the 3rd one made me so happy. I don't want to spoil it. (I'm "team Jacob" myself...)

I have been rereading the Harry Potter series over the holiday break -- I think I would have enjoyed spending a quiet afternoon with you.

  18. Like so many kinds of books and authors--couldn't say I have a favorite. Kind of like me and movies--altho, I think my fav movie is It's A Wonderful Life. But I can't think of a book or author who I love over and above the rest--that I could read over and over and over--???hehe! I want to read the Twilight series eventually and I like Koontz, too. :)
