52 weeks of me - week 9 & bag swap

it's been years since i've worn my hair in plaits but i'm trying to think up different ways of taking my self-portrait each week.....still 43 of them to go! i took this self-portrait in the studio today while i was working on this.....

it's one of those recyclable shopping bags and a group i belong to is doing a painting swap with them. this is only the first layer so doesn't look like much at the moment but, tomorrow, i hope to find time to finish it.

  3. what a lovely self-portrait. the light is beautiful! Blue eyes and dark hair - love it! My daughter was supposed to get that (to my way of thinking) but she got brown eyes and brown hair. son got the blue eyes with white blond hair when he was little and brown now.

  5. I usually put my hair into pig-tails, keeps it from getting too messy when I'm working. Your hair looks good like that :)

the shopping bag looks really nice, the swap sounds like a great idea. And painting them just makes them more personal. More people might use them if they saw how unique the bags can be (we try to use cloth bags as much as possible)

  11. You look beautiful in braids, Lady! And so young--yes!

The bag is going to be beautiful! Be sure and show us a picture of the finished product. What kind of paint do you use on cloth? What a great idea--a bag exchange! I wish you could get pictures of all of them--how personal and pretty, too! :):) Have fun finishing up.

  16. Plaits is a new word for me, we just call them braids. Either way I am fond of the look on you. I tend to wear mine that way (especially in the summer-Florida heat wreaks havoc with your hair) Your bag looks great now, what shall you add to it?

  17. What a lovely photo! You are so beautiful - & fun to see you in 'plaits!' When I had longer hair I liked doing 'snake braids' - saw them on a gal at our food co-op once, & stopped her so she could show me how to do them! Rather like a french braid, with the strands split in two, bringing a small bit from the back of one over . . .

  18. Thank you, everyone, for all the sweet comments about me looking youthful. I wish! I do get told I look younger than I am but I sure don't feel it at times. lol

Rita, the bags are actually made out of polypropylene which is a thermoplastic resin (chemical compound) and they take the acrylic paint very well. No surface preparation required...you just paint straight onto the bag. I give the final design a spray with sealer or fixative but you could use a brush-on varnish too.

Dia, I used to do mine and my daughter's hair in the snake braids/plaits years ago too ~ :)
