spider and flowers - monday's photo a week

michelle and alex visited today.....it seems like weeks since we've seen them so it was nice to catch up.

for this week's photo, i thought i'd share this pic i took of a saint andrew's cross spider which lives in the snake (mother-in-law's tongue) plant under our pergola. this is a female because of its size and brightly striped markings....striking, don't you think? these spiders are named for the white cross they create in the centre of their webs, pretty much like a multiplication (X) sign. this spider hasn't finished her white cross yet but you can see the start of it in the lower left part of the photo. check out this link to read more about it. click any image to enlarge

i also snapped a pic of some pretty flowers which i took last week on my travels. i think they are rhododendrons but i'm not 100% sure.

i managed to finish one of the mantra cards after michelle and alex left this afternoon but i haven't managed to set it up for a pic yet. I'll post it tomorrow so stay tuned ~

LOVE, LIGHT AND PEACE

  1. Hi Mum,

I just thought I'd comment and say that I think the photo of the spider is pretty interesting! I don't like spiders much, but I don't mind photos of them!

    Love Brad!

  2. We have a similar spider here in the States (I call them banana spiders but they are some variety of garden spider, super large and gorgeous). Last year I chronicled the one that made her home on our deck and laid not one but two egg sacks! it was a great experience for me, I'm not sure how she felt about having a camera so close to her at times.
    Peace~

  4. That spider might be fascinating to watch on a nature program--but to see it in real life in my plants--I'd pass! Shudder! Shudder! Great photo, tho, Serena--and I'd love to see her big X in the web some day. But you can keep her down in Australia--hehe! :):):)

  6. The flowers are beautiful. I would say the spider is beautiful too with the fascinating markings she has....but spiders are one of my least favorite creatures, no matter how interesting. But thanks for the photo, anyway.;o)

  7. What a wonderful shot of the spider. Are they poisonous? I always think of Australia having poisonous spiders.
