tempeh burgers, more on the tray, and another self-portrait

it's been a nice easy-going day
just the way i like it

my quick pen and coloured pencil sketch for today is food-related because, for lunch, i made tempeh burgers with lettuce, tomato and south-west dressing. they were delicious!

for those who haven't heard of tempeh before, it is a solid, flat cake-form made by a natural culturing and controlled fermentation process that binds soybeans together. it is a very good source of protein and quite popular in vegetarian cuisine. click here to read more on tempeh.

i also gave the wooden tray a fresh lick of paint i've gone with a dark blue as i'm leaning more towards a sea-theme.....after i've finished painting the design, i'll decide if this dark blue will be covered with white paint and then distressed or not. you can see my mug of green tea in the background....i pretty much drink the stuff all day long. gotta have my hot drinks!

still catching up on self-portraits so here is another

it's now almost 6 PM so, i hope you all had or will have (northern hemisphere readers) as pleasant a day as we did.....i'm off to heat up curry and rice for dinner. YUM!

love, light and peace

  4. Tempeh must be similar to tofu?
I haven't tried either but you make it look good!
    Another great post Serena!

  5. Yum! I like tempeh. And your drawing is great. Also love the photo of you.

That is a beautiful, rich blue you chose for the tray. I can see it with an ocean theme.

  10. I love Tempeh! It is much nicer then tofu.

Wow that pic of yourself in the mirror reminds me a lot of me at first glance. I had to take a second look! I never usually see any resemblance between us but I can in that photo. Maybe I'm seeing things, lol

  11. I haven't ever tried tempeh, but it sounds like something I would like! And now I have a question: is it southwest sauce, as in southwest United States, or southwest, as in southwest Australia. And if it is from southwest Australia, what exactly does it taste like? Is that a stupid question?

More importantly, thank you, Serena, for taking time to read "Previously on The Jason Show" and for your kind and supportive comments about it.
    I really appreciate it.

    PS-I love your self portraits.

  12. I was wondering if the tempeh comes already formed into patties or do you make up the patties yourself? I've only seen it here in Fargo in these solid rectangular packages? Didn't know what to do with it, so I didn't buy any. Looked better than tofu, tho. :)

    Love all your self-portraits!

  13. Thanks, Robyn....your scarf sounds beautiful! I'm thinking of making myself a scarf too ~ :)

Thanks, Julie. I love both Indian and Thai curries. YUM! :)

    Thanks, Breedale....stay well ~ :)

Thanks, Darla. Tempeh and tofu are different in texture and taste, though both are made from soy beans, just different processing. :)

    Thanks, Janet ~ :)

Thanks, Sandy. I'm glad you're enjoying the sketches ~ :)

Thanks, Margaret...you say such sweet things ~ :)

    Thanks, Jennifer ~ :)

    Thanks, Brandi ~ :)

Thanks, Michelle....the boys see resemblances in certain photos too. :)

Not a stupid question at all, Jason....it is the American SouthWest sauce. I buy the Paul Newman's brand...love the Ranch dressing too. You're very welcome for my comment on your blog...your story was very moving and heartfelt. I'm glad you're enjoying the self-portraits. :)

  14. Rita, the tempeh here is packaged in a solid slab and, usually, a rectangular shape. I slice it into 1/4" fingers and fry them for around three minutes each side. They turn a nice golden brown...great on bread rolls or sandwiches with lettuce, tomato and, if you like, dressing. I'll post a pic in my next post for you. :)

  16. I always love your sketches! I am amzed at how quickly you can draw them. It would take me a week to so a decent sketch! LOL!

As we head into summer, I forget that you all are heading into winter. That poncho looks so cozy and warm.
