I've joined a Portrait Party

hi everyone,

thank you all so much for all the well wishes you have sent me over this past week. it has meant so much to me. the CT scan of my brain came back clear which was a huge relief for us and the doctor now feels the pain may be radiating from my neck.  maybe i cricked my neck somehow while sleeping, not sure?? so, this past week, i have been popping pain pills and applying heat-packs pretty much on a continual basis and today, for the first time in two weeks, i've actually felt signs of improvement.  i'm still in pain....just not as bad as it has been so now i'm thinking acupuncture may be the next step towards a full recovery.  it worked wonders for Michelle when she had her whiplash injury and our symptoms are almost identical.

a couple of days ago, i signed up to Julia Kay's Portrait Party.
it's a Flickr group where the members basically draw/sketch/paint portraits of other members in the group.

this was my first contribution
i used graphite pencils in my moleskine sketchbook
reference image here used with permission.

for now, i can only sit at the computer for short periods of time but i hope to be back on a more regular basis as my condition keeps improving.

i wish you all a wonderful weekend.

~ love, light and peace ~

  1. Hi Serena,

Glad to hear that the scan came out ok. Despite your pain, you did an amazing job with your portrait. I checked the flickr picture and it is right on the money.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    Best,

  4. I should have also said how glad I am that your scan didn't show anything bad. I hope you get this problem resolved soon, whatever is causing the pain. Feel better!

  5. Oh, gosh, Serena...I don't know how I missed your earlier post about this trouble you are having. If you do have a muscle issue, muscle relaxants can really help! My friend has had this twice and she had to get the relaxants..it is so bad she is in severe agony! I am happy to hear you feel like things are improving. You sure don't need any more medical issues in the family...and you know, stress could be building up on you as well. Do your meditation, and oh...I almost forgot...the other thing that REALLY helped my friend was massage! Best wishes...sending love your way!

  6. Good news about the scan but I hope you have real relief soon. That portrait is fantastic. I knew you were a good artist but now I know that you are very good. Awesome work.

  7. Hi Serena. I'm so glad that the CT scan was okay. Hopefully with what you are doing, you will heal fast. Sorry you have been in pain and thank you for your kind thoughts on my blog. I just love your sketch! Wow! That is great work Serena. I've never used graphite pencils and I've heard of moleskine sketchbooks. I've got to buy a moleskine sketchbook. I love the name. Her hair is so realistic as is her mouth. She's beautiful. I love it. Hope you keep feeling better. Have a great weekend.

  8. Serena -- Sounds like you've had a rough time. I'm pleased, however, that the CT scan was okay. I had to go one of those not long ago myself and then wait for days to get the results...it wasn't an easy wait.

I hope your treatments will relieve the pain soon!

This portrait is beautiful and it's an excellent likeness. I did look at the picture.

    You've got a ton of talent:~)

Keep your well and I wish you a wonderful weekend:~)

  9. So glad to hear you're slowly improving!! Was worried about you! Maybe acupuncture would be a good thing to try.

Your sketch looks great! Take it easy. So glad to see you back online. :):)

  12. Very glad to hear of the scan results.
Any time I sit at the computer for too long (especially a couple of days in a row) I can count on a whoppingmigraine. I injured my upper back (muscles) years ago and they seem to tighten and hit whatever triggers the pain.
Love your drawing...very emotive! Glad that you're doing better and hope it continues!

  13. This is a wonderful drawing...I should check out that group you joined. I hope your neck/head gets better really fast. I noticed your beautiful crochet work a few posts down. I wonder if bending over your crochet work could be causing some problems? Whatever it is...I hope it heals soon.

  14. Hi, just discovered your blog. I love the arts (evenhtough I am hopeless at drawing, the closest I get to it is through photography), so have decided to follow yours.

    And that's a lovely potrait.

Glad to know the scan was ok. Hope you keep making good progress with your health. Take care

  15. Since I have been away from the blogs for a little bit I had no idea you were having such problems. I hope you're feeling better soon. I've heard lots of good things about acupuncture but haven't used it myself.

The portrait you did is amazing!

  18. first off glad to read that your scan came back okay, but neck pain or problems, an irritant in themselves. Your portraits are great. Will be looking forward to seeing more. Maybe I'll have to think about that some time..joining the portrait party.

  19. Oh my goodness a CAT scan... I'm so glad you are ok! Maybe you have a pinched nerve.

Acupuncture will probably help a lot... it has helped me manage pain (and also go into labor!) in the past.

    Your portrait work is gorgeous.

  20. Thanks for blogging about JKPP and for your great portraits!

I'm sending good energy your way for everyone's health and hoping the floods, storms, etc, do less damage than expected & recovery is quick.

I haven't read all your posts so I don't know the details of the neck issue you mention, but you may want to look into the Alexander Technique along with the acupuncture. If you want to know more about it, drop me an email on flickr.
