Happy Father's Day, Dad!

It was Father's Day in Australia today so I had Mum and Dad over for lunch.
It was a rainy day which was perfect weather for a nice, hot lunch of home-cooked corned beef/silverside, roast chicken, garlic/cheese/cream potatoes, Brussels sprouts, carrots, sweet potatoes and gravy.  I had vegetarian nuggets in place of the meats with my veggies.
After a delicious lunch, we played cards for the afternoon.
We all had a great time.

Mum and Aaron were clowning around behind us.

Dad with Beau

Dad with Brad.  The wall behind them is in the process of repairs...a whole other post.

As I look over the photos I am reminded that my parents aren't getting any younger and my eyes well up with tears hoping that I will still have quite a lot of years left with them yet.  I can't bear the thought of them not being in my life.  They have been my rock on so many occasions and, while we haven't always seen eye to eye, they have always been there for me when I have needed them.  I am so thankful to have such wonderful parents.

I LOVE YOU, MUM AND DAD! xoxo

Other news - I am finally starting to feel some relief from my head and neck pain.  It's been going on for three weeks now.  Over the past couple of days I have been getting a lot of hot flushes....
....HELLO MENOPAUSE!
Brad's Aunty had her MRI and it was clear. The specialists are now doing a variety of blood tests to investigate further as, unfortunately, her neurological symptoms persist.
Brad's neurological symptoms also persist but, thankfully, they haven't worsened.

I hope to post again soon as I have some art goodies to show you.

  1. Such beautiful photos Serena. I am glad to see you had a lovely Fathers Day and I am also happy to hear that your head and neck pain seem to be subsiding. I hate the thought of my parents not being around too. Hopefully it is a long time off yet. I am so grateful for them and I try to savour every moment I spend with them
On a different note....Oh the lovely "M". I get the flushes at night (throwing my sleeping patterns out the window) amongst other symptoms like foggy thinking. I have had relief with bio-identical hormones from The Menopause Centre in Sydney. Great support and personally tailored prescriptions even though I am in Melbourne.
I do hope the doctors find some answers for Brad and his Aunty.

  3. I'm so glad your head pain is better. I hope Brad and his auntie improve, too.

Love seeing pictures of your family. I know what you mean, tho--my dad aged a lot since we saw him last year. He'll be 90 in November. I'm not as close to my parents, but they will leave a hole, nonetheless.

Looks like you guys had a great time! Happy Father's Day to your dad! :):)

  4. Hi Mum!

This is a great post and I have to say I really enjoyed today! It was fun playing cards with you, Beau, Grandma & Granddad and the lunch was fantastic!

I also love looking at the photos as well, and yes, I feel the same way, but I also hope Grandma and Granddad will have many, many more great years with us! I also can't imagine life without you or them as I love you and them dearly!

I'm so glad that you're finally improving more with the pain, hopefully it'll be gone soon.

    Love Brad!

  12. Dearest Serena
Wonderful family photos. I know what you mean about having them close by. Hugs to all of them. My family was like that too.

Perhaps your headache symptoms are menopause? Please feel better soon.
Sending good healing energy to you all.

I posted your beautiful PIF seafoam rose. So lovely.

  13. Sweet family!

    I'm glad you're feeling a little better.

And, pardon me if I seem rude, but in Australia do they call them hot "flushes" rather than "flashes?" Or was that just a little typo?

    :)

  14. Thank you all for your beautiful comments ~ :)

Lee - Thanks for the info on Menopause. I must admit I don't like the idea of taking HRT unless it's via natural therapy.

Jennifer - Thanks for the suggestions...I don't think Lyme Disease fits as it's caught only through tick bite and Brad hasn't come into contact with ticks. Also, the symptoms for Lyme disease are more inflammatory whereas Brad's has not inflammation.

Jason - Not rude at all. I've always heard it called a 'hot flush' here but my New Zealand student calls it a 'hot flash'. Flash or flush, same thing I guess ~ :)

  16. Great photos of everybody and the meal sounds wonderful.

I'm glad you are getting relief. But menopause?!? I naturally went through that at
43 and never got a hot flash. OF course I look like a crone though.

    Love the new banner.
