Day 13 - AEDM & Nablopomo - alpaca, crochet & sticks

it's been a nice, relaxing sunday here.

i spent part of the morning catching up with blogs and browsing my reference photos for a sketch subject. i finally settled on a photo that my son, aaron, had taken back in 2009.

an alpaca....too cute!

i started the sketch using graphite pencil but found i was second guessing myself too much so switched to my trusty pigma micron pen and things went smoothly from there on. i couldn't resist adding a touch of colour with my derwent inktense pencils.

and here is the original reference image.

for some reason, the white alpaca in the background makes me think of The Beatles.
must be that dashing hairstyle - lol

i was quite tickled that paula invited me to participate in a task for the artist's way group that she has been hosting on her blog. check out the post here.

thanks, paula! xo

------------------------------------------------------------

i also found time today to do a little more work on my striped blanket throw

------------------------------------------------------------

i think my son, aaron, has caught the creative bug because, this past week, he has been busying himself making various items from paddle pop sticks.

he paints them up himself too...very effective all grouped together, don't you think?

i hope you had a nice, relaxing sunday too

~ love, light and peace ~

  2. Your drawing of the alpaca is beautiful - as is the other work I've enjoyed seeing of yours. What a lovely way to document your day. I'm in awe, too, of your penmanship...just lovely. Your son looks like he's having a lot of fun creating as well. He's been very busy!

  3. Congrats on being featured on Paula's blog. Nice variety of examples of your work. :)

Love the alpaca sketch! And once you said that about the white one in the back of the photo with the bangs...all I can hear is "yah! yah! yah!" LOL!

You do beautiful crochet work. I love the rainbow-colored blanket. And Aaron has really caught the creative bug--and what variety in the items he made. They look great, Aaron!! I never would have thought of a bowl! Wow! Clever. :)

Hope you have a really good week and your feet don't give you any troubles...or anything else for that matter. :):)

  7. Wow, very impressed with your son's creations, amazing. Love your journal page - and your writing on the page is superb, it really adds to it. I always feel like my writing, not ruins exactly, but takes the pages down a notch - have you taken any classes? I keep meaning to, but I know I'm a very quick painter/journaler so I probably wouldn't take the time to write nicely even if I knew how lol happy sunday x

  9. Wow Serena! Your sketch of the alpaca is amazing! And yes, that one does look like he could be a Beatles member. Ha! Aaron's creations are wonderful. He definitely got his creativity from you. :) Love your bright and colorful afghan.

My body feels like it has been run over by a steamroller. I'm allergic to the sun so have a rash and blisters on my legs and chest; the ankle is bruised and swollen and aches. Certainly not what I thought would come of this recent holiday. :/ Makes me wish I had stayed home.

Wishing you a wonderful week. Tammy

  12. Hi Serena,
Love the sketch of the Alpaca and your beautiful crocheted balnket. What fun colors you are using. :)
Tell Aaron that his work is amazing! He really must have a lot of patience for him to do so many things with popsicle sticks. :)
    I love the house!

  13. Aaron definitely has your creative talent. All his pieces look so bright and happy. Well done!!

Of course, you know I think the alpaca is great. I wish I had your talent for sketching with a pen. You make it seem so easy.

  14. Serena, I have to agree with you about the alpaca ressembling the Beatles! Haha too funny! You are the only person I know who finds it easier to draw in permanent ink versus graphite! I'm no where near that!! Love your drawing. Your crochet is coming along beautifully and those stick houses are so cute!! I guess it runs in the family!! All the best :D

  15. Your drawing of an alpaca is really good. I envy your skill of being able to draw in ink. In my case, I need to draw it in pencil first and then ink it afterwards. I still don't have the confidence of working on something without getting any errors. haha.. i need to work on that. :-)

    happy sunday!

  29. I love your post, Mum!

The sketch of the alpaca looks great! You're doing pretty good with pen drawings! The original photo of the alpacas looks nice, and that one in the back does look a bit like a Beatle!
Loving how your blanket is coming along! I really need to try and get back into my knitting. It's fun to do, but this time of year working with wool can get hot.
Aaron's paddle-pop stick creations also look wonderful! He really has done a great job! I especially love the yellow house!
By the way, all your other posts also are great, I've been enjoying reading them as well!

    Love Brad!

  36. Your sketch capture the sweet, playful essence of the alpaca, Serena! A secret pipedream I have is to have an alpaca farm...cutenenss and wool to knit and crochet with--how great! Your lovely crochet inspires me to pick up again my ripple throw in my UFO basket. I knit more than I crochet. Although recurring tendonitis in my hands/wrist makes sticks & string time limit just now. LOVE your son's colorful stick village is amazing. Creative mom = creative son. ;o) Happy Days!
