Pear-brained!

Just skimming in again this week with the Artist's Play Room challenge.
I have a terrible habit of leaving things until the last minute
and then I find myself racing against the clock.
Will I ever learn?!

I was somewhat pear-brained this afternoon as
the challenge this week was to portray some pears. hehe

Unfortunately, it's not the greatest picture because the lighting isn't the best indoors
being late afternoon.

There are only two edible pears in the photo below because...
well...I got kinda hungry and couldn't resist the temptation.
Pencil-free sketch using Faber-Castell artists PITT pens and watercolour in Holcroft A5 sketchbook

    1. Thanks, Krissie! I saw the Corella pears and was going to get them until I decided to go with the regular pears. I've never tried the Corella pears but will next time.

  3. Serena, not only is that a DAMN good pear painting but you made me laugh out loud!! In fact, there are still tears in my eyes from all the laughing. Mom and I think it must be an australian thing to eat your still life before you done rendering it!! Hehehe. You, Tracey, Vonny, Neesie, keep me in stitches, I swear!! Please promise to NEVER work with plastic fruit, I don't want to hear of a plastic poisoning and emergency visit, lol.
    Much love my talented friend,

    1. Thanks, Jenn! LOL re. plastic fruit. I have artist friends who regularly sketch their meals....I just don't think I could do that. I'd have to take a photo and sketch from the photo because I just wouldn't be able to stop myself from eating! lol

  6. These were done in a hurry? Well girl, you need to hurry always then! No don't, I'm all for slow, but I'm just saying: These are GREAT! Love the "ripe and ready" touch too:-)

    1. Yes, they were done in a hurry...trying to beat time before the sun went down as I prefer taking photos with natural lighting. I set Friday as my personal deadline for APR because, with time zones, I just don't know for sure when the cut-off time is. Thanks for your compliment. :)

  12. Your pears are stunning. It may be a good thing you ate one, because they can go bad so quickly. I had a good laugh at that, at least.

  19. Love to see that Aussies love pear bums, at least I kept mine clean, with no bums, just blobs :) You and Trace really are so clever with the pen no pencil thing, so wish I could do that. The brown bits and speckles are really fabulous, maybe I should have used some fruit instead of making it up but we don't have pears much (sorry Jenn), the kids prefer apples. I understand the losing bits with still life, I recently did coffee cups with a biscuit on the side and that biscuit never made it to the end.
    Have a great weekend.

    1. Thanks, Von! It certainly seems that we Aussies do like our pear butts. LOL I understand about not having pears...I bought these ones especially for the challenge as I don't normally buy pears. Mind you, after eating these ones, they may well become a regular....so juicy, sweet and delicious! I agree, still life pictures are very difficult to sketch when food is involved, especially yummy, snack-sized food. :)

  28. Just yummy Serena! Lovely palette of colours.

I love pears that are crunchy, and then end up with a belly ache afterwards. Same for Nashi pears. It's worth it though!

  29. Love your pears! The colours, textures and highlights are perfect, and I like that the watercolours are so strong, and that you used the purple lable too. I was too lazy to get some real ones for sketching, so I just googled some images. I couldn't eat any of them, though, so your's was definitely the better choice :). I'm the same, I always wait till the last minute, and then I'm frustrated because the light isn't good for taking photos (I did mine Friday night).
