Day 23 - AEDM & Nablopomo - Desk lamp

A couple of days ago,
I managed to fall backwards onto concrete
and put my hand out behind me to take the brunt of the fall
and protect my lower back from hitting the concrete hard.
I felt immediate pain in my shoulder and it's
been tender ever since.
If I raise my left arm out from my side,
I can't raise it any higher than shoulder height
due to the pain.
I'm taking painkillers and resting it as much as I can.

It's been a bad day for me pain-wise so
a super quick sketch will have to do to
keep me in the challenge.

#54 of 75 pen/ink sketches

The special crafter's lamp I use when sketching
or painting at night.
I do prefer natural lighting but, sometimes,
it isn't always possible.

Pencil-free sketch in A6 Moleskine pocket sketchbook
using ZIG Millennium and Micron pens.

  1. Congratulations on sweet little Madelyn. She is adorable and it's nice to see that Mikayla already loves her little sister. So sorry to hear about your fall. I nearly took a dive late last nite as I got up and got my foot stuck in the charger cord for my laptop -- I went flying across the room and scraped my shin as I fell, but thank goodness I was able to catch myself so it wasn't too bad. Thanks for stopping by today. it's cloudy out so we are having a quiet day at home. Feeling so sad for Beth's boys -- they are such sweet little guys. Their parents were divorced and their father wasn't the greatest role model so I wonder what will happen with them now. Wishing you all the best, Tammy

  2. Hi Serena I hope you feel better. Your lamp is beautiful. It is healing and calming light. I had a bad fall 7 months ago and I broke both bones in my arm in my dominant hand. I was so scared that I will not be able to draw again and create. So I started to use my other hand and I began a journey to true and healing creation.
Lots of healing thoughts to you. X

  9. Sweet, sweet Madelyn...and look at all that dark hair! What a lovely family Michelle has.

Serena, I had a similar fall on concrete two years ago...fell down several stairs and hit my head but put my arm out to break the fall and had a horrible shoulder injury as a result. I couldn't lie on that side at night for over a year and to this day it still hurts when I do try to rest on it for very long. I found massage therapy to be very helpful for an injury like this as the tissue seizes up in a knot and needs to be broken down and smoothed out or it just stays knotted as scar tissue. Also hot/cold packs were helpful in reducing the swelling and pain from the injury. Muscle relaxants/pain killers got me through the worst of the pain but it took a few months to be able to lift my arm over my shoulder.

  10. Oh, Serena, I've missed several posts and didn't know that Madelyn Grace had arrived! She's so sweet and such a pretty baby. I know you must be thrilled.

I'm sorry to hear that you fell. I can surely sympathize with you. My tumble this past summer took me quite a while to get over.

  16. What a lovely Grand daughter. I hate to say this but I fell a week ago down two steps into our sun room. I knocked my spine and hip out of place and I had finally gotten it all put back in place. A trip back to the chiropractor fixed me up altho the knee screamed at me for a few more days. I have a chiropractor that uses something called an Activator ..a little gizmo that you wonder how it can help but it does and it sure is better then the cracking. Hope you feel better soon. You might have gotten your neck out of whack.
