Scribble Picnic - Fox

Hi everyone,

I'm running late again after a very busy week. I'm rushing just to get this post done in time before I have to head out yet again.

Scribble Picnic is hosted by Michael Macvean and is a weekly event which includes a prompt/theme for each week. This week's prompt was FOX. I did attempt some illustrative fox characters but they just weren't working out for me so I decided to sketch one in a realistic style which I'm more comfortable with.

My fox is very much a work-in-progress at this stage. A little more colouring and I also need to bump up the lights and darks.  This is done on Strathmore Toned Tan sketch paper using coloured pencils, a mix of Derwent and Prismacolor. I will post the finished piece next week so stay tuned.

Next week's prompt is WATERMELON. Why not come along and join in on the fun each week — to find out how, click HERE.

  4. oh my! this is wonderful! you are so good with the fur details. I like this light-ish coloring. perhaps it could better a bit darker but if it was me, I would leave it. great take on the theme.

    have a lovely day.

  5. The PERFECT fox Serena - you really nailed it with this beautiful art and really know what you're doing with those fabulous pencils! I really like the Strathmore Toned Tan paper you used - it makes such an awesome piece of art and really looks finished already. I can see it framed and hanging - and wish it could be on my wall!!!!!

Happy week - slow down girl, you need to relax a bit!
    Hugs - Mary

  6. I'll look forward to seeing the completed Fox but it's already beautiful! The eyes are alive with warmth and I'd say it's got a little of the Kitsune mischief coming thru in that face too. :)

  7. Well, I can't imagine what else you will do to this, Serena, as it really does seem perfect, like Mary noted! It's beautiful and sophisticated, even! thank you so much!

Oh, and thank you for adding those details about your parents. I am quite sure when your Dad went back to Malaya my mother was there too so no doubt they knew of each other, if nothing more. I loved reading the history and love the idea that your family also knows of the Cameron Hills, etc. With my mother now deceased I can;t exactly ask her and her sister is gone too so that leave my older sister who may know more details. I'd like to forward your note to her and will tell you if she knows any more in terms of specific dates. Anyway, my mother knew A LOT of people there and was pretty well known her self so it warms my heart that they probably associated in similar ex-pat circles. It wasn't that big then anyway. :)

  8. Serena,
Your fox is amazing. I love his coat - the way you did the fur. And his muzzle too. Oh all of it.
    Blessings,
    Janis

  12. Great idea to use the tan paper, and it looks so good even if you say it is "unfinished"!
