Scribble Picnic - Fill in the blank

Hello fellow Scribble Picnickers,

I've had a pretty rough day...feeling unwell and having to take medication to ward off a pending migraine. I'm a little foggy-headed as I type this so please forgive any errors.

This week's prompt was a 'fill in the blank' —

I've enjoyed working with the tan-toned paper for INKtober so thought I'd use it for today's sketch as well. Castles kept coming to mind so that's what I went with. Sketched with a Platinum Carbon fountain pen and coloured with a mix of INKtense and Prismacolor pencils. I was channeling well known Urban Sketcher - Pat Southern Pearce.

And a laugh for today —

Those who follow my blog regularly will know that Jack, our Jack Russell/Shihtzu, detests having a camera or smart phone pointed in his direction. Well, yesterday, I caught him watching me, and he looked so darned cute that I had to try. Poor little man is blind in his left eye (cataracts and age) so he didn't realise what I was up to at first and I managed to actually get a fairly decent shot of him.

Within literally two seconds, he spotted my phone and was on the move...a blur!  THIS is what most of Jack's photos are like. haha

I will post more INKtober sketches tomorrow so stay tuned...

  1. Lovely interpretation Serena, I had an idea to do a castle or a pumpkin as well, at first.

  3. Wow, your castle is gorgeous!

So glad you were able to get the "keeper" photo of your little guy. Though I'd probably keep the second one also as a reminder of his funny reaction to cameras!

  4. I think it is so interesting that your dog knows when you are pointing a camera at him. Glad you got a nice photo of him.

Castle is a wonderful idea for our shape. Sweet drawing.

    1. Yes, I know...he has always been like that and I always wonder what he thinks they actually are. It's very rare that we manage to get a nice photo of Jack as he takes off on us. haha

  6. Lol at Jack...you caught him! Ha ha...very cute!!! I had a pug who passed away at age 19 in 2014. He was blind and deaf...but somehow always knew when I was taking photos of him. He would get up, stretch a bit and look in my direction with his head turned, it was quite something!

I hope you feel better soon. I suffer migraines as well and they are debilitating for a good 3-5 days, they are just awful and nothing seems to help. Hope your meds to help you.

I love your castle! Beautiful! :)

    1. I sure did catch him...haha. I worry about Jack ending up blind and deaf as I wonder how he will cope, bless his heart. How clever of your elderly doggy to know where to look. I'm hoping Jack's instincts will help him through too.

My Mum suffered migraines that lasted for days...very debilitating for sure. I'm lucky that the worst is usually 24 hours but then I have the foggy-brained after-effects for another 24 hours. No fun at all.

Thanks for the nice comment on my castle sketch. :)

  8. LOVE your castle and pic of Jack! Annie is much harder to photograph than Miss Karma was so I know more about blurry pictures now--LOL!

I hope you are feeling better. Been a rough couple of months hasn't it? Well, longer than that. Kind of a hard year in general pain-wise. May it improve...for both of us. ;) Love and hugs!!

    1. Thanks, Rita. OH yes, I can imagine how it is with Annie. hehe

Yes, the past six months have been tough pain-wise, that's for sure. I hope we both improve sooner than later.

      Love and hugs xo

  9. Lovely pic of your sweet Jack. Hope you are doing better now. This year has been tough healthwise on many of us I fear - sometimes I think all the stress from the world at large is just overpowering us!

Well, looks like you were in full castle mode for the theme Serena - turrets AND marvelous crenulated walls. Definitely reminds me of Carcassonne's old city in the south of France. My brother lives close by there - I love visiting!

Beautiful art - you truly hit the theme big time - great work.

    1. Thanks, Mary. Yes, it's definitely been a tough year.

The photo reference I used was from Carcassonne, France so I'm thrilled you recognised that. Cool that your brother lives nearby.

  10. Your art is always a delight and the angle on the view of the castle just sets it off. Nicely done, Serena. And, LOL at your Jack pictures. My whole family, including all of the animals, run when they see the camera in my hand or if I catch them they turn their heads away so I can't get a good shot. But, I have to admit, I don't like my picture taken either so I so I understand their angst ...

    1. Thanks, Andrea.

I understand. I have a nephew who runs or turns his head away if someone tries to take his photo. I'm not a huge fan of having my photo taken either, truth be known. It's just funny that Jack, our pooch, seems to understand it too. hehe

  11. Serena, your castle is a masterpiece. When many of us to these quick sketches, yours always look like something to be matted and framed. Beautiful soft colors, and beautiful work.

  13. Aw, I'm so glad you caught a NON blurry photo of Jack! Ha.

Hope by now, a week later, you are feeling all better. I really need to not only catch up on S.P. here as am attempting to do, but also all your inktobers. I haven't even seen all Alex's yet. Finally coming out from the weeds though. :)

I love the castle interpretation for the lines. Great job, Serena. Not heard of those INKtense pencils but will have to check them out. Wonderful illustration skills shown, per usual, as of late. Well done!
