I was actually going to buy the black Koh-i-noor set thinking they were maybe opaque, more gouache-like watercolours but, when I mentioned that I already had the white set, she told me that black disc watercolours are actually student grade watercolours whereas the white disc watercolours are of a higher quality, more artist's grade.

Serena Lewishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17789734075055678964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4166133926661022482.post-8249757222412915572016-05-06T08:00:48.575+10:002016-05-06T08:00:48.575+10:00Thanks, Genie. There are quite a variety of different types of papers in the Moleskine range. Their sketchbooks are like card-stock - off white/cream in colour - and I find they are fine with ink pens, although Speedball ink does bleed through. I think it depends on the type of ink. I like their watercolour Serena Lewishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17789734075055678964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4166133926661022482.post-81539798982542249612016-05-06T07:47:14.758+10:002016-05-06T07:47:14.758+10:00Thanks, Sue. :) Well done on managing a whole year...Thanks, Sue. :) Well done on managing a whole year of calendar sketches! One month was enough for me. I doubt I could maintain it for a whole year. I did enjoy it and may do a month of calendar sketches here and there. I guess they weren't meant for watercolours so we give them a bad rap unfairly. I actually don't mind the Moleskine watercolour notebooks but I've heard they have changed the paper in them and some say it's not as good. :(Serena Lewishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17789734075055678964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4166133926661022482.post-6981470872937553312016-05-06T07:40:05.778+10:002016-05-06T07:40:05.778+10:00Thanks, Christine. :)Thanks, Christine. :)Serena Lewishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17789734075055678964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4166133926661022482.post-20149356364994398442016-05-06T07:39:39.728+10:002016-05-06T07:39:39.728+10:00Thanks! I, personally, am one of the few people who kind of can't stand moleskines. Yup--because I like ink and watercolor and they're not good for that. The regular writing paper isn't very good for fountain pens, either, and tends to bleed through.
