Sunset

It's been a crazy week with my son having to undergo medical tests. Thankfully, he got the all clear but there is still one more test to go. Needless to say, I haven't had a lot of spare time to paint but, this afternoon, I managed this sunset silhouette. Landscapes are definitely not my forte and are an area of my art that I would like to improve on but at least I try.

Sunflower - finished (I think)

Okay, here is the latest on the Sunflower. I added a few more petals, more detail and some washes. I think it's finished now.

Sunflower - Work In Progress

We've had rain, on and off, since yesterday evening and it's been heaven! We desperately need it considering we're still in severe drought conditions. I just hope it's falling in our catchment areas.

I started painting a sunflower art card today which seemed fitting with all the rain around at the moment. I guess I needed a little sunshine somewhere. Hopefully, I'll find some spare time to finish it off tomorrow.

The erupting Gingercake.....Argggghhhhh!

Well readers, I'm not even sure I should be sharing this with you considering it may forever put a black stain against my prowess in the kitchen but I'm gobsmacked on this! As I type, I have a Gingercake baking in the oven but I've renamed it 'Demon-cake' because this particular cake decided to take on a mind of its own and erupt on me. Don't believe me? See pic. I had to quickly place another baking pan on the shelf underneath to catch what seemed like a never-ending flow of gooey mess. I've baked these cakes countless times before without incident but today.......what can I say? It's a demon-cake! The only up-side is the beautiful aroma throughout the house which I'm hoping won't soon change to the smell of burnt cake droppings. I did open a new packet of Bicarbonate of Soda so I'm wondering what else they are packing into that stuff these days???

On a nicer note, here is a pic of Cody, now just over 13 weeks old.

I didn't get much painting done this week with my classes starting back up for 2007 but it was nice to catch up with my students again after the annual break.

Japanese Spitz - Update

Japanese Spitz - © Serena Lewis

I did a little more to the Japanese Spitz today. Not too dramatic a difference but I think it has more detail now with a little softening here and there. Finished or maybe a little more tweaking yet, what do you think? I usually sit my drawings or paintings somewhere in the house where I can view them frequently throughout the day because I find this helps me to spot any areas that still need more attention. Okay, I'm now thinking the shading on the neck may need to be a little darker. Stay tuned ~

Started first sketch for 2007

Japanese Spitz - © Serena Lewis

Well, it's not much yet but I finally managed a little spare time to sketch a Japanese Spitz. My reference is a photo of my student's dog as she wants to do a painting of him. For now, I'm working on some preliminary sketches from the different photographs Cathy has given me but my problem is that the photographs are distance shots so short on detail. I'll work on it some more but the real test will come when the brushes hit the canvas.
