Scribble Picnic - Fox

Hi everyone,

I'm running late again after a very busy week. I'm rushing just to get this post done in time before I have to head out yet again.

Scribble Picnic is hosted by Michael Macvean and is a weekly event which includes a prompt/theme for each week. This week's prompt was FOX. I did attempt some illustrative fox characters but they just weren't working out for me so I decided to sketch one in a realistic style which I'm more comfortable with.

My fox is very much a work-in-progress at this stage. A little more colouring and I also need to bump up the lights and darks.  This is done on Strathmore Toned Tan sketch paper using coloured pencils, a mix of Derwent and Prismacolor. I will post the finished piece next week so stay tuned.

Scribble Picnic - Jars

The prompt for this week's Scribble Picnic is JARS.

My imagination wasn't coming to play at the picnic this week so I ended up just painting something from life...a jar from the pantry.

My son and I LOVE the Vegan Burrito bowls at Zambrero's Mexican restaurants. We adore the Verde sauce and always ask for an extra serve of it. For ages, I had tried to find somewhere that stocked Verde sauce to no avail. That is, until a recent visit to Zambrero's...

I almost did a happy dance right there in the store when I spotted jars of Verde Sauce on the shelf for sale! YES! They are now selling their sauces! I bought two jars of the Verde sauce right then and there...they're expensive but, oh so spicy and delicious!

Needless to say, Verde sauce was my subject for today's picnic.

A quick pen sketch to start with

About two layers of watercolour at this point

More layers and some penwork....almost done

Final result

I thought you might like to see another jar I painted earlier in the year

Michael Macvean is our wonderful host and, for next week's picnic, he has chosen the prompt - FOX. I look forward to seeing what everyone does for that one.

Have a great week!

Scribble Picnic - Bird

Well, I had big plans to have a completed Scribble Picnic sketch for you all this week — coloured-in and all, but...

an unexpected visit from one of my sons put a bit of a spanner in the works, I'm afraid. While we had a lovely visit with my son, I didn't get time to work on my sketch until late evening.

Scribble Picnic is hosted by Michael Macvean over on his blog.

This week's theme is BIRD.

SO... filled with excitement, little Tommy is off on another bird-watching adventure. He has his camera set up on the tripod, at the ready, and is scouring the trees and shrubs with his binoculars in hope of spotting a bird to photograph and sketch. Little does he know that a Cockatoo has come to rest on the camera tripod right behind him. Who's watching who? hehe

Only a very rough pencil sketch for now but it gives you an idea of where I'm headed with this one. A lot more detailing is planned...

Scribble Picnic - Letters/Mail

I'm running late again for Scribble Picnic — sorry, guys.

This week's theme is LETTERS/MAIL and I decided to have a bit of fun using the illustration theme I did for last week - Little Tommy was going on his first Bird Watcher's outing.  See below.

I thought I'd illustrate Tommy getting all excited about receiving his official Bird Watcher's Membership card in the mail.

My rough pencil sketch

Yet to be coloured but this is the pen sketch

For next week's theme, Michael has chosen - BIRD.
I wonder if Tommy will make another appearance?
