A day trip and a catch up

Another month has passed so time for a catch up...

Hopefully, I will do better than one post a month but it's a start to getting back to my blog on a regular basis.

Covid news - It looks like masks are here to stay for quite a while yet but I don't mind. If they help even a little, I'm happy to wear them despite Brad and I being asthmatics. That said, it's always a relief to get back to the car and remove the masks.

Queensland continues to do well as far as Covid stats go. We haven't had a serious outbreak since the Delta variant hit and daily cases are less that 5, mostly 1 or 0. I hope it remains that way. My heart goes out to New South Wales and Victoria which aren't doing so well but, hopefully, they will get it under control soon.

Bradley (son) is now fully vaccinated and I get my second Astra-Zeneca early October. My other sons are also part-vaccinated and due to get their second jabs in a month or so. Some employers are already adding 'Covid Vaccination Required' on their job criteria. The vaccinated are also going to be given extra privileges that unvaccinated won't have. Only this past week, a couple of top Cardiologists in one of our southern states had to go into 2 weeks isolation because an unvaccinated theatre nurse was diagnosed with Covid. Some heart patients were awaiting critical surgeries that had to be postponed. I really feel for them. One of the reasons why vaccination is so important. Covid has brought about a new way of life which will be here to stay for a while yet.

Speaking of heart surgeries, my youngest brother Wayne had open heart surgery a couple of weeks back and is now at home recovering. The first 48 hours after surgery were horrible for him...immense pain. He is doing well now although had an erratic pulse a couple of times that needed medical attention. Apparently this can be expected after heart surgery. It will take 12 weeks for him to be fully recovered.

I was very saddened recently to hear that a long-time art friend, Tracey Fletcher King, lost her 8 year battle with breast cancer on August 21st.  Tracey lived at the bay-side and, although we never did get around to meeting in person, we followed each other via our blog posts, Instagram, and occasional emails. She had a great sense of humour and never failed to make me laugh. I loved her art too. She will be dearly missed and my heart goes out to her family. xx

Kya is not a fan of me sitting at my art/work desk. Here she is sitting on top of my bullet journal as if to try and stop me from focusing on things other than her. lol I don't know how this will work when I get serious about painting again.

In the older photo below she is not asking for a belly scratch but more daring me to try. Cunning little Miss.

A couple of weeks back, we had another family outing.
This time to Wellington Point at the bay-side.

I love the bay-side!

It was a glorious day!

And I got to see pelicans....which I LOVE!

We found a lovely spot with dappled shade

Part of the view from our spot.
Ibis came to visit.
I really love the play of lights and darks in this pic.

Bradley (eldest son)

Aaron (youngest son) with his doggies

I must remember to get a group selfie next time.

I recently watched a Netflix documentary on Bob Ross. Have you seen it? I know Bob Ross was huge in the art world over in the States but I have to say that I'd barely heard of him here in Australia. I knew of him mostly through American art magazines. Those Kowalskis seem like a nasty piece of work, don't they?!  Yes, they helped Bob Ross to become famous in the art world but they pretty much controlled him, even pushing him to work when he was sick and dying of cancer. They then bullied people into signing over the Bob Ross name to them after he died...not what he wanted at all. They pretty much stole all rights away from Bob Ross' son when it was clear that Bob wanted his son to have his name, rights, and money. Such a sad story of greed and betrayal.

On a happier note, the Plovers are nesting and, this year, I hope their babies survive. Ever hopeful.

The warmer weather is here to stay now. Not looking forward to the summer heat and humidity.

Stay tuned for another post soon...

Love, Light and Peace

  1. I'm glad your brother is doing well. Terribly sorry to hear about Tracey!! I didn't know her cancer had returned. Just knew she had disappeared from the blog world a long time ago. Wonderful artist, yes. So sorry to hear that.

Nice that you got away to such a beautiful spot. I hope you remain more successful with vaccinations than we have been in the US. I'm so glad you all are getting your shots finished up fairly soon.

Kya does have that look in her eye like she can be a tinker--LOL! She is such a pretty cat.

Stay safe and I hope you blog more often. :)

    2. Tracey had been doing so well until she came out of remission. She had left her blog and posted more on Instagram. There, she let us know the cancer had metastasised and she was terminal. She had a few hospital stays after that. I then noticed she had stopped posting on Instagram for about 3 months and I feared things were grim. So very sad...such a lovely person. I will miss her posts.

Our southern States continue to battle Covid...between 1000 and 1500 new cases daily. Queensland continues to do well, however, I'm very worried, as our Prime Minister is planning on opening our international borders next month. I think that's a big mistake but money is more important to them. :(

I hope you are doing well. Stay safe. xo

  3. Very nice catch up post. Your son's are very handsome. It is nice you are able to spend time with them. That bay is so pretty. Yes, masks are here to stay, doesn't bother me because I wore a mask before covid. Here in the US it is still a mess with the lies and trumpsters. I just don't have time for them at all. As for Bob Ross. Yes, I saw that documentary and it saddened me. Those creeps have made millions off of his name. Those types of scammers will have a very special place in hell. Makes me mad that I purchase brushes from the Bob Ross website. I will never buy from there again. Oh well, we have to make life as good as we can and honesty is at the top of the list for me. Wishing you a very nice day.

    1. Thanks, Nicole.

Trump caused a lot of problems when he was in office and it continues even after he was ousted out. I can never fathom why some people prefer to believe the lies over the truth. They don't even bother to do their own independent research.

Those evil Kowalskis continue to make money off his name. Shameful!

Sometimes, it can be quite depressing to see all the lies and evil occurring on a global scale. So damaging. We can only live our lives in truth and hope that things change for the better.

Wishing you a beautiful weekend! x

  4. Glad all is going smoothly so far with you and the boys getting your shots. Hope that continues to be the case.

They've started doing things where if you aren't vaccinated you can't do certain things over here too. As from October you can't go to events and such if you aren't vaccinated. I'm torn between agreeing for safety reasons, and being annoyed because of how it excludes people who aren't vaccinated for genuine reasons (like how I can't have my second vaccination for medical reasons). Although, from my point of view, the fact I can't get fully vaccinated and know my immune system isn't too great would make me reluctant to go anyhow... I'm still being cautious, even in situations where it isn't required, because of my situation. Especially since I have the added complication of anxiety attacks whenever things go over my face meaning I can't wear a mask either (I tried and had a panic attack bad enough to trigger an asthma attack). Needless to say, I'm still staying home most of the time.

Kya is funny. Good luck persuading her to let you do some art. LOL!

Sounds like another lovely outing for you and the boys.

    1. Oh, and I'm glad your brother is so far recovering well. Hope that continues to be the case.

      Sorry about your friend.

    2. Thanks, Tori.

My brother's recovery is going very well now.

I hope they would provide you with a Medical Exemption from the second jab which would allow you to go places only the vaccinated can go. Like you, I would be reluctant to go to big venues with lots of people for some time yet. Even the vaccinated can get Covid and pass it on. I can feel very anxious after wearing my mask for a while but thankfully I don't progress to a full-on anxiety attack. You should be able to get a mask exemption.

We have always been homebodies with occasional day trips so I have to say our lives haven't been effected dramatically. Except maybe public transport because we used to take the bus into South Brisbane to attend Brad's hospital appointments but now I prefer to drive. I've always hated going places with crowds so avoid them anyway. Crowds make me feel very anxious.

Stay safe and well. Enjoy your weekend. xx

    3. I have exemption cards, though they don't seem to have anything that helps with the vaccination requirement problem yet. In the meantime though, I've got two things I wear around my neck whenever I go out now. One is a badge that says I'm exempt from wearing a mask, and the other is a badge that says my blindness makes me exempt from social distancing when my disability requires me to need to be closer to things.

  5. as always i enjoy your catching up - lovely photos and such. Sorry about your friend.
That's great that you kids love to hang out and have a day with you. Mine live far away - three of them. But my oldest and his daughter will be visiting on Saturday for a quick visit before going back to Washington.

I hope you had a lovely visit from your son and niece. One of my sons may be moving to New South Wales permanently which will be sad with so much distance between us.

      Enjoy your weekend. xx

  6. havent watched that about Bob Ross yet, its on my long list of things to watch
sadly cases of covid here are just going up and down, usually over 3000, sometimes over 6000. and even tho you are supposed to, some people dont wear masks (often english people up visiting, since they dont have to back home)
i dont mind wearing a mask, no shirt off my back and actually helps me health wise

    1. Agreed, I feel like the masks gives some security when it comes to our own health. I think I will be reluctant to give it up. lol

We have people here who refuse to wear masks even though masks are mandated. As long as people don't take safety measures, Covid will continue to spread. I'm really concerned that our Prime Minister is talking about opening up our International borders next month. I feel that it's way too soon. Our southern States are still in lock-down as they struggle to get Covid under control. 1000 to 1500 cases per day in each of the 2 States which is a lot for Australia.

Stay safe and have a nice weekend. x

  7. What a lovely thing to say. I look on my regular blog visitors as my friends too. x

Tracey will be missed for sure.

Sadly, we have a number of people here refusing to wear the masks. They just aren't taking Covid seriously and prefer to believe in the conspiracy theories even when they are proven to be false.

    Have a lovely weekend! xx
