My first sketch for 2014 and Daily Life on the Go

Remember our leaky roof
and how we thought it was a slipped tile?
Wrong!
The roof tiler came out and
we actually have TEN broken roof tiles
due to hail-stone damage.
He did a temporary fix with silicone
and will hopefully be back this week
to do the full repair.

Drum roll please!!!
I actually did my first sketch for 2014!
I truly hope to be more productive with my sketching this year.

My potted Kalanchoe Flapjack
Pencil-free sketch in pocket Moleskine sketchbook
using ZIG 005 Millennium pen and Faber-Castell PITT pens.

All pictures were taken with my mobile phone -
Samsung Galaxy S3

Day 6 - Car
Meet Lily, my car!
Yes, I name my cars.

Day 7 - Oven
She's fan-forced with numerous options
but I only ever use one or two of them.

Day 8 - Leather
I love my Guess leather zip-around wallets!
They may be a bit pricey but then,
I've only ever bought them on sale.
The black wallet is made by Colorado
and I bought it because I needed something smaller
for my smaller handbag.
You know how that goes, right?
In my attempt to lean more towards a vegan lifestyle
I don't intend to buy any more leather goods.
I'm not sure I will ever be able to fully embrace a vegan lifestyle
but I'd like to and I'm making gradual changes accordingly.

Day 9 - Numbers
The cutest numbers I know!
I snapped this photo of my granddaughters'
joint birthday invitation.
Michelle (daughter) made their birthday crowns.
Aren't they cute?!!
Mikayla is now 3 and Madelyn is 1.
I added the birthday frame in Paintshop Pro.

Day 10 - Bike
At a time when we were without a car,
I bought this cheap bike so that Aaron
could ride to his sister's place each morning,
then walk to school.
She lived closer to the school than we did.

The past four days have actually been quite pleasant.
The heatwave passed and I sure hope
we don't get any more.

I'm quite excited at the moment because I get to
baby-sit Mikayla and Maddy later today!
Michelle and Alex are going to see the new
Hunger Games movie.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend!

    1. Thanks, Merle. Maybe the water is getting in under the eaves if the rain comes with gusty winds??

  4. beautiful sketch Serena. I always feel inspired by your work. I'll be doing a lot more drawing this year, maybe I'll get as proficient as you and be able to move to pencil free sketching. Ooh, I think I just shivered at the thought! hehehehe.

    1. Thanks, Jenn. It sounds like a good plan....you can do it! You'll actually be amazed at how comfortable you will end up feeling using only pen. I find that I'm more nervous using pencil now than I am a pen. Why? Because, with pencil, I just know I'll be wanting to erase and correct and waste a lot of time. :)

  5. Great post, Mum!

I love your sketch you did, it looks really good! I love the photo of Lily as well, and the photo of Mikayla and Madelyn, they really are cute! The other photos are great also! I always enjoy looking at your sketches and photos you do! That's not good about the roof, hopefully it'll be properly repaired this week. I have to agree with you on the heatwave front, I'd sure hate to go through another one of them.

    Love Brad!

  8. Always impressed when someone goes pencil-free! Wow - love that sketch! Looks like you are a busy woman! We name our cars around here too. I guess when you pay the price you do for autos and you tend to rely on them at times, they should have an endearing presence, right?

  12. Enjoyed your whole post - glad your heatwave passed. And those girls, so cute!! I'm sure you enjoyed babysitting them. I have had a couple grandsons here for several days - one for nine days who went home yesterday and the other one off and on for a few weeks. The next two weeks are just mike and I and lots of hikes! Love your sketch.

    1. Thanks, Keith. Still waiting for the roof repair but at least they used silicone as a temporary fix to get us through any expected rainfall in the interim. :)

  15. Thanks so much Serena for visiting my guest post on The Moksi Homes.

Your sketch is lovely as always. I started a sort of art journal at the end of December and as is part for the course, I've already gone nearly a week without writing in it. Why can't I be organized?

The kids ceiling has a leak when it rains hard here which fortunately doesn't happen too often, but of course, the crack in the roof has gotten bigger over the past couple of years so the leak is worse. The owner says it is too hard to figure out where the crack is so he doesn't fix it. Very aggravating! Hope you got your roof tiles sorted out.

    Best wishes, Tammy

    1. You're welcome, Tammy. Don't give up on your art journal....just do it when you can and hopefully a habit will develop. I know how difficult that can be when life can get so crazy. Re. the ceiling leak in your son's room - The owner should put in more effort for his own sake, if not for you, because it will end up costing him a lot more in the long run to fix. Yes, the roof tiler came yesterday and our roof has been repaired. YAY!! We still have the water damage on the inside of the garage ceiling to be done but that's not urgent as it won't get any worse now.

      Enjoy your weekend! xo

    1. Thanks, Tracy! I'm still trying to find time for sketching but at least the year is under way. Aaron goes back to school at the end of the month so perhaps I can then get into a more productive routine.

Have a lovely weekend ~ xo

    1. Yep, the roof tiler came yesterday and replaced the broken tiles. YAY! :)
I had recently done a Weed 'N' Feed on the lawn and the storm greened the grass up beautifully. The bright sun that morning seemed to emphasise it even more.
Hope all is going well in Fargo.
Love and hugs to you and Karma ~ xo
