Sunday Sketches - Buddha and cockatiel

Hi everyone,

I haven't had a lot of time for sketching this past fortnight.

My eyes have been feeling very strained of late.
When I wake up in the mornings,
they feel so sore and very dry.
It actually hurts to open them.
I use eye moisture drops
but they only give temporary relief.
It could be the change in the weather as
we're getting some cooler mornings.

I do love the cooler months of the year.
I'm definitely a winter gal at heart.

My sketch this week is of
the Buddha that sits on my bedside table

I have sketched this Buddha in the past too.
This time, I used a BIC Cristal ballpoint pen
and my LAMY Joy fountain pen
for a little emphasis here and there.
See the date written in the lower left side?
I was going to stop the sketch there
and have it just fade into nothing at the base
but my pen had other ideas.

I'm linking up with Sunday Sketches this week.
You can check out the other participants HERE.

I almost forgot to show you the finished calendar month
filled with daily sketches.
I'm very pleased with it.

I finished the month off with a sketch of my cockatiel, Phoenix.

He's such a clever boy!
I taught him part of our choir song last year
which he picked up very quickly.
He gets all happy and excited when he sees me.
He loves to chirp in a very high, ear-piercing tone,
particularly in the mornings around 7 o'clock.
This can drive my sons crazy but I love him to bits!

Earlier in the week,
Bradley (son) and I went to see Eddie, the Eagle at the cinema.
We loved it!

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend.

Stay tuned for some pics of my travel palettes in my next post...

  1. Cool sketch of the Buddha. I like how you gave just enough of the sculpture's details to keep the design. And I am wow'd by your calendar journal pages!

    1. Thanks, Alexandra. With my eyes playing up, I've decided to leave off doing a daily May calendar sketch. It can be quite a strain on my eyes working details into such a small area. I will definitely do a later month of sketches though. It was fun! :)

  10. Loved the trailer. Definitely looks like my kind of movie. I must see it. :) Love your calendar sketches and the awesome Buddha, too. My eyes have been dry lately for some reason also. Of course, we are heading into the heat of summer, with dusty weather, but they are dryer than usual with my contacts, even though I just put new ones in. I've read that using eye drops too often can actually have the opposite effect so the only time I really use them is when I am on a long air flight as the air in planes can be very, very dry. Wishing you a wonderful new week. Tammy P.S. How could I forget your sweet Phoenix. He is lovely.

    1. Thanks, Tammy. :) I'm sure you will enjoy the movie too. Sorry to hear you are dealing with dry eyes at the moment too. Thanks for the tip about the eye drops. I'll be careful to only use them if I'm absolutely desperate. I didn't want my eyes becoming dependent on them anyway. Enjoy your week. xo

    1. Thanks, Norma. I didn't notice that about Phoenix's eye until you pointed it out and WOW, it DOES look like a black onyx surrounded by diamonds. Great observation, my friend. Hugs ~ xo

  13. Well, all this time I thought the birds in the house were Aaron's--LOL! Sweet! There's a special bond with birds.
Love your sketches. That looks like a pretty good movie! When it comes out on DVD here I will rent it from Netflix. :)
Have a great week, my friend.

    1. The budgies are all Aaron's and Phoenix was originally Beau's bird but his female cockatiel didn't like Phoenix so I said we would have him. Beau was fretting over finding him a good home so that took care of that. Initially, Aaron did claim him until Phoenix drove him nuts with the loud chirps every morning. hehe That said, Phoenix chose to bond with me which I'm quite happy about. He is a sweetie.

I'm sure you would enjoy the movie. It's one of those feel good ones.

Love and hugs to you xo
