Butterfly sketches completed

We've been having incredibly hot, muggy days here in Brissie. We had another violent electrical storm come through last night and more are forecast for the coming week. Two people have been struck by lightning so far from two separate storms.  I do not like our summers at all. See yesterday's post to read about our own ordeal when caught in a violent storm last Wednesday.

Just a quick post today

I finished off the butterflies I started last weekend.

They went from this
a work in progress sketch of two butterflies

To this
one black brown butterfly with a bright yellow green design called Rajah Brooke's Birdwing. Also, a dark brown butterfly with some yellowish markings on the lower wings. This one is called The Red Helen
I was pleased with how they turned out.
They are done with a mix of watercolours, coloured pencils,
coloured ballpoint pens and ink pens.

I'm linking up with Sunday Sketches again this week.

Happy Sunday to all!

  1. I'm impressed! Butterflies are not easy. I had to paint one last year, and it was a struggle to get right. Yours are beautiful.

  3. Beautiful butterflies! December for us started out very stormy. I had heard about the "Thunderstorm Asthma" in Australia on the news, and now they are saying it happened here. 3 am yesterday morning we had crazy thunder that made the ground shake. And tonight my husband told me about an Indian guy that was driving along during one of the storms. He was talking on his phone (which is against the law but people don't care) and his car was struck by lightning that killed him. Very scary! Thankfully, today was a clear day. Tis the season for unpredictable weather, that's for sure. Take care, Tammy

    1. Thanks, Tammy. Yes, the 'thunderstorm asthma' event in Victoria was quite scary. Thousands of people were having breathing difficulties and many had never suffered with asthma before. Eight people died from it. We had two people get struck by lightning in Brisbane, one was mentioned in my previous post where Brad and I got caught in last Tuesday's violent storm, the other was two night ago when a young teen holding a metal door at the entrance to their house was struck by lightning. I think both survived thank goodness.

Talking on mobile phones while driving is against the law here too but some people still do it. They get fined if they are caught. Sad that the Indian guy died. A big no, no to be on any sort of phone during a storm.

      Crazy weather season, for sure!

      Have a great week ~ :)

    1. Thanks, Christine. It was very scary for us and I'll think twice next time before boarding a bus with an approaching storm.

  6. your butterflies really pop of the page now :D look great

thankfully when it rains here, it usually isn't a thunder/lightning storm, just lots of rain which leads to flooding

    1. Thanks, Jen.

I would prefer just the rain although we have had torrential rain where it has caused severe flooding in areas. We just had another thunderstorm move through at 4:10 am. We don't normally get them early morning like that so it always feels weird to me. Thunderstorms are forecast for every day this week. :(

    2. I've been seeing pics from the storms there, impressive show of power but very scary at the same time. does make for some nice photos but sometimes getting that great photo isnt worth the risk

    1. It sure has, Rita. We didn't have much of summer storms last year so I think it's making up for it this year. They have forecast a thunderstorm for every day this week. :(

  8. WOW! Two people struck by lightning in such a short space of time? That really is bad! I'm glad they both appear to have survived. I'm also still glad you and Bradley made it home without having similar bad luck, and hope you don't get caught in any more storms any time soon.
