Sketching and decluttering

We have been sweltering in high heat and humidity this past week. As we don't have the luxury of air-conditioning, it feels like we are living in a sauna. The nights have been hot and humid too so no relief there. Winter can't come soon enough for me.

I've been blending up some smoothies to help ease our discomfort from the heat. SO delicious!

Strawberry, banana with coconut milk

Berry, banana with soy milk

The daily sketching continues and these are the ones I have photographed so far.

My tiny bag which is an ideal size for my mobile phone and keys.

My favourite character on Criminal Minds - Dr. Spencer Reid - played by Matthew Gray Gubler.
Pen sketch with a wee touch of graphite for subtle shading

One of my Lamy Safari fountain pens which I had to soak and clean as it had dried up.

Refilled the Lamy Safari with Lamy water-soluble ink.

It's been quite a while since I've been able to participate but I'm linking up with the Paint Party Friday group today. To see the work of other participants for this week, click HERE.

On top of sketching, I did more decluttering. I sorted through more of my books and donated quite a few. I have a lot of art magazines and instructional art books (some are pictured below) that I no longer want so I think I might put them up on Gumtree for sale.

Tomorrow, I will be tackling my art studio/space. I organised it a while back but I have way too much stuff so I need to make some tough decisions.

    1. Thanks, Merle. I think it goes in phases. Decorative art was huge around 16 years ago but interest seems to have waned a great deal since then. Books aren't as readily available now because of it.

Spencer is my favorite character on Criminal Minds, too!!
Love that little bag!! It is so colorful and bright.
Great sketches. Yup--those FPs do dry out sometimes. Lamys are pretty easy to clean, thank goodness.
Happy purging!! Love and hugs! :)

My Lamy is working well again after it's soak and clean up. :)

More purging went on today which I'll post about soon.

Love and hugs to you xo

  10. Great post, Mum! Those you make are delicious, I always enjoy them. Love your sketches too, great sketch of Spencer also. I like that bag you carry your phone and keys in. Good luck with the rest of the decluttering. Trying to declutter a studio would be hard if you've recently organised it, it'd be tough to choose what you need or don't need anymore.

    Love Brad xoxo

    1. Thanks, Brad. I'm glad you enjoy the smoothies I make.

Yep, it will definitely be tough deciding what to part with in the studio.

      Love Mum xo

  11. I love banana and berry smoothies. I often make one using orange juice in place of any kind of milk (so it's literally orange juice with some banana and some berries added to it, then blended until smoothe).

Glad you're making great progress with the decluttering.

    1. Delicious! I love the creaminess that the soy or coconut milk give them but I do love fresh orange juice so will have to give those a try.

I did more decluttering today. I'm so pleased with how it's going. :)

    1. Thanks, Nicole. Smoothies are perfect for breakfast. I usually add some oats to mine and it gives them a thick, creamy texture. SO yum! :)

  15. Heat and humidity, that sounds awful, especially if it doesn't cool down at night. I hope it cools down soon! It's still cold here, and lots of snow, but I'm already not looking forward to summer... Your smoothies look delicious! I've been wanting to try out smoothies with coconut milk too. Wonderful sketches too, I especially love that bright red Lamy pen! I've been decluttering and reorganising my studio too. There really is such a thing as too many art supplies.

    1. It has been a very uncomfortable and draining few weeks due to the horrible heat. I don't like our summers when they get too hot and humid, especially when we don't have air-con. Snow sounds heavenly to me right now. You can also use coconut water for smoothies. I think a pineapple and coconut milk smoothie would be delicious — makes me think pina colada. :) I agree, it was a relief to get rid of paints that I'd had for years but just don't use anymore. Have fun organising your studeo. :)

    1. Thanks for dropping by, Susan. OH yes, Spencer is definitely my favourite followed by Penelope Garcia who is a close second. :) Did you ever see Matthew Gray Gubler in Runaway Vacation? He plays a very brief role that is pretty much the total opposite of Spencer. haha That was before he was famous, I guess.
