Scribble Picnic - Strawberry

Hi everyone,

This week's Scribble Picnic prompt is STRAWBERRY

I was feeling very drained yesterday — maybe the wisdom tooth extraction and a busy week caught up with me — so I very nearly was going to opt out of this week's picnic. I woke up just after 4am this morning and thought — NO! It's not too late to do something — so I quickly got this underway before getting ready to head off for an appointment.

I was thinking Strawberry Farm as what child doesn't love to go strawberry-picking, right? I've been to the Strawberry Farm a few times with my Granddaughters and they were always so excited to pick their own strawberries. My sketch was inspired by one of the many photos taken from those times.

Yes, it's another work-in-progress but I did at least slap some colour down.

A quick pencil sketch to start me off -

And the first pass with watercolours -

Stay tuned for the end result, hopefully later today — that is if I don't botch it up.

Next week's prompt is STORM. It sounds like we will need to bring our raincoats or brollies to that one. hehe See you there.

P.S. - I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to get around to comment on the entries for last week but I promise to check in on those when I comment at your blogs/Insta for this week's treasures.

  3. That is so cute already. I never went strawberry picking at a strawberry farm. They do have them here. But I did go once picking wild strawberries on hillsides in Northern Michigan when I was a kid and they were the best strawberries I've ever eaten.

Hope all is going well with appointment and extraction recovery.

  4. Well, considering the host sometimes takes a week to get around to picnicking with everyone and leaving comments, I think we all understand and you are well excused, let alone with all the trials you've had to contend with, dear Serena!

I am so very touched when reading something like this...how early in the morn you determined you could muster up something after all. Wow. Thank you. I LOVE it and can't wait to see it finished (which reminds me, still need to complete my Frankie piece too! Ha

Ignore my comments on IG as I see now this is in a work in progress...which is also totally good. It's funny how much more one can see on the blog, let alone the post here gives us more depth vs. the quickness of IG. Can't wait to see it done. It already looks amazing and I can only imagine how amazing this will be when done. Your granddaughter would love it as a gift, no doubt! Hey, there's your Christmas present already figured out. :)

Again, thank you so much, Serena. Hope this weekend is a very good one indeed for you. Good to read this.

  5. What a sweet scene. Your sketch was great, but with the color it's certainly a WOW to me. Lovely work. And such a sweet memory too.

  6. Nothing like picking fresh strawberries... and of course popping a few into your mouth while doing so!
    Thanks for posting!

  9. This is such a soft and lovely watercolor. The shading on her arms and legs is so nice. I love the feeling of her bending over to pick the goodies.

  11. The love for a Granddaughter, strawberries and an up and coming Mother's Day weekend ... what a warm and wonderful picture you paint even unfinished it stirs the heart. Oh my and a wisdom tooth extraction, so sorry :( Like you I had to throw my strawberry creation together the morning of ... we are in the long and dreadful process of moving so I just didn't find the time, but I found I didn't want to miss our picnic with Micheal and friends. It has become a wonderful part of my life as it has for you. Hope you feel better by next week and glad you made it to the picnic :)
