Preliminary sketch for my next Acrylic project

Today, I spent some time drawing up a rough sketch in coloured pencil for my next acrylic project which I plan to paint on 24" x 24" gallery wrapped canvas. I will make a few changes to the leaves as I'm not happy with their positions but, for the most part, this will be it! I LOVE Frangipanis! They have a beautiful perfume and, as a child, I remember making frangipani necklaces.....what girl hasn't?! lol The reference for this drawing came from various pics taken of the one and only frangipani tree I own and, thankfully, it is in a pot so it will be able to come with us when we move. YES! This drawing is done in shades of pink because the final painting is to be a birthday gift for someone special and pink is their favourite colour.

  1. This will be a stunning painting. Great composition and color. I can't wait to see the painting...will you post it in stages?

  2. Thank you, stapeliad! Not sure that I will be able to post the painting in stages or until after it has been gifted as I fear the recipient may view my blog in the meantime. I know I took a risk posting the pre-lim drawing but I figured the finished acrylic piece will hopefully turn out better than my pencil drawing. :)

  3. Your artwork is so good, Serena! I also love to paint things from nature. Birds mostly as I have no talent with flowers. You did a really good job on the frangipani blossoms! Also, is that Kookaburra a painting?? It is so good it looks like a photograph! Will enjoy watching for more of your nature artwork! Joyce

  6. Thank you, Tracy! At least you still did the girl thing and made necklaces out of what was available to you....still a lot of fun, no doubt, not to mention nice memories. :)

  7. Serena, when I first opened your Blog to read your latest entry, my first impression was that I was looking at a silk scarf. Wouldn't this drawing make a lovely scarf, though??! I love the colours, even the pink background. This will be a fabulous present! Lucky friend is right!!
