another week is nearing an end.....

....and i have been busy at the sewing machine again, as much as my aching body permits anyways.

yesterday, i sat down and worked out the cot quilt design and how much  fabric i would need to make the quilt blocks.  this process took quite some time even though the quilt i'm making is fairly simple and i have certainly developed a new-found respect for quilters who plan and make intricately patterned quilts.  i can hardly wait to see this cot quilt all sewn up although that part will have to wait until next week.

for now, the sewing is on hold while i set my mind to tidying, rearranging and cleaning house.
this saturday, my home will be the venue for a baby shower which michelle and alex are hosting so it's all hands on deck at the moment.  michelle made up some lovely invitations for the occasion...click here to see them.  we will be having a barbecue lunch, sweet treats, goodies and games for family and friends so it should be a lot of fun.  i'll try to remember to take some pics to show you.

on another note, i thought i'd show you a pic of my corsage from michelle and alex's wedding.
i dried it out simply by hanging it in a cool, dry spot for a few weeks.
isn't it lovely?!

it's totally dried out yet it's amazing how delicate the petals still appear

and just in case you forgot what my corsage looked like when it was fresh, see below
i'm holding the ring pillow which i made as well as the celtic wedding tie box that i painted

this sunday, i plan to have a lazy day so i will be kicking back and relaxing...maybe even watch some DVDs or read a book.

do you have anything special planned for the weekend?

it's not an australian holiday but i'd like to wish all my blogger friends a Happy Thanksgiving if you are celebrating it in your part of the world this weekend.

~ love, light and peace ~

  1. Good luck with the quilt. I don't have the patience for quilting so I just admire ones that other people make.

Your dried corsage is beautiful. It has a vintage look now. The color is so soft and delicate.

I hope the baby shower is a huge success.

  2. It is as beautiful dried as it was fresh. Wow. Must be the weather conditions that make it look so lovely. I must try it here but somehow I think it may not dry so nicely because of the moisture in the air.

  3. Hi Serena,

How lovely that Michelle has a blog too. The invitations turned out great. It's always special when you can make your own. Sounds like it's gonna be a great shower.

I have been kicking back all week and my house is a total disaster because of that. We don't have off since Thanksgiving is not celebrated here. On the way home from school, I will be picking up a turkey dinner that I ordered from our supermarket deli. That way, the family get their turkey dinner and I don't have to cook everything. My contribution is the pumpkin pie I made last nite.

Wishing you all the best. Take care! Tammy

  5. not a holiday here either Serena.... and we will just be doing our usual kicking back and relaxing ...

love your delicate looking dried roses.... it's amazing to me every time I see how well roses do dry.... and they last a long time even in that state. My friend across the street has some in a vase that she has kept for a few years now... just gently blows the dust off occasionally...

  6. Hi Serena!
Sounds like the shower/party is going to be such fun! Yes--we want pictures! (I am really bad about remembering to take pictures when I have company--hehe!) I had to think when you and Michelle say the baby's cot because we call it a crib over here--hehe! ;)

The quilt sounds like quite a project. Don't overdo it with your sore back. Karma and I are just relaxing at home for Thanksgiving. Glad not to be going anywhere as it is five below zero!

Have fun at the party! Won't be too long now and you'll be a grandma!! :):)

  10. Hi Serena! I love your art journaling and portraits. Thanks for visiting my blog. The Postcards from the Gulf event was a big success, and I was able to see them all displayed here in Mobile on November 12th. It made a wonderful statement about why we need to protect the Gulf of Mexico! Keep blogging and journaling!

  11. That's going to be such a special quilt for your little girl. I'm hoping it becomes her "blankie" that she hates leaving behind when she goes to school.

Interesting to read about baby shower customs elsewhere. In the States a generation ago, bridal or baby showers were always hosted by friends. Today family members often do so. Sounds like Down Under the mom-to-be hosts her own?

What fun that via the web we can know these things.

  12. Hi Serena,
Hope the cot quilt comes out great. I am sure that it will. :)
Love the shower invitations. How did the shower turn out? I bet it was lovely and Michelle got lovely gifts. :)
I have dried flowers just like you did. I have dried complete floral arrangements that my DH has given me just by hanging them upside down in a dark closet. I even went one step further. I sprayed them with adhesive and sprinkled glitter on them. They turned out great and I had them in a vase for the longest time. :)
Hope all the aches and pains go away soon.

    Hugs

  14. My you have been busy, it has been years since I had made a quilt myself.

Those two dry out flowers has a very pretty color to them.

Our (USA) Thanksgiving holiday is mostly over now although some folks are still celebrating theirs.

  18. Baby shower!! How fun <3
I dont think I ever told you this, but I grew up in NZ and until the age of 10 I lived in a town called Blenheim at the top of the South Island and one of best friends there, a girl I went to school with and who lived just up the road from me, was called.... Serena Lewis!
That has to be a good sign <3
