Hi everyone,
This week's Scribble Picnic was a little bit tricky as Michael gave us the following image to create from and we were to fill in the blank so-to-speak.
So, the brainstorming began with some very rough sketches...
At first, I was thinking a ten pin bowling lane
Then a bunch of lollipops
Then...what began as a mouse holding up a bar-bell but I drew right over the top of it so it looked more like some type of mutant. haha I did do another sketch to clarify what I had settled on...a frog! Although it looks more like a cross between a turtle's head and a frog's head in the sketch. Bear in mind, I was sketching entirely from imagination.
Then finally, I followed up with a fresh sketch and some colour with Prismacolor pencils...also looking more like a frog.
I did do a wash of watercolour over the top which I regretted because I feel like I lost some definition. Ah well, we live, we learn... At least I can rectify it when I have time.

Next week, the theme is Ladybug/Ladybird...why not come along and join in on the fun? To find out how, click HERE. I'm looking forward to seeing what my Picnic pals have done for this week.
Wishing you all a lovely week ahead.
Your frog made me chuckle, you had so many great ideas, thanks for showing them!
ReplyDeleteI agreed that the final version seems to have lost some texture as the lines/strokes are smoothed out. I sort of like it not smoothed out. I guess that's the thing about art - you never know how it will exactly turn out. I really did like the bowling pin idea. great take on the theme.
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day.
Fun to see all of your sketches/ideas. I started with lollipops....
ReplyDeleteyour final piece makes me smile, it is cute. You also make me want to get out my colored pencils it has been so long.
You are lucky that you can draw what you see in your imagination. I can imagine things, but my pictures never seem to capture what I am thinking. Love that you showed your progression ... fun times and cuteness :)

I also thought of a barbell and lollipops! Very nice drawing! I really like frogs so I enjoyed this :)
ReplyDeleteSerena, I love seeing your process from the brilliant bowling ball idea to what you ended up with. Funnily enough, i had an idea about lifting weights like this too but when starting the drawing, my mind just went in a totally different direction! Anyway, I love that it's a frog and agree with you that the pencil one has more texture and works even better but both are great. Well drawn too. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteSuch cute drawing, and love the final touch. I was smiling ear to ear as I scrolled down to see how your artist brain works...love the process.
ReplyDeleteVery colourful and adorable picture. I love the muscles.

all of your ideas are great :) was a tricky week, couldn't think of anything lol. love your green frog :) the lollipops are a good idea for the given image too
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing your thought process as you made your way to the final!! love it :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a very strong frog there! Love what you came up with. I have the same angst sometimes thinking whether I should stop with what I have or keep going. You're so right about living and learning!
ReplyDeleteYour wonderful frog is not only strong, but rightfully pleased with his ability! I'm glad you settled on the frog over your other good ideas.
ReplyDeleteSo funny! Love how you jumped from this idea to that. :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea Serena, and so much thought went into your final choice. It was a stretch for many of us I think - but some great ideas made it on the pages of very creative people.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend - Mary
