It's been a while...

I can hardly believe that the last time I posted was back on February 22nd!

Truth be told, I've had a rough month of pain which led to a bit of depression — mostly me feeling sorry for myself and having a pity party at feeling so debilitated. My back, hip, and leg pains are still plaguing me but I'm trying to pick myself up and carry on regardless. Even March being my birthday month wasn't enough to pull me out of the doldrums. And I was actually looking forward to turning 59 on the 23rd as it also marked the year I was born - '59. In the interim, I decided to update my blog a little with a new header image and profile pic.

I have definitely missed Scribble Picnic even though I've not had the urge to sketch since I last blogged. I must apologise to all my fellow Scribble Picnic pals as I've been very lax at commenting and following up on everyone's sketches during my unplanned break. I hope to do better.

So, this week's prompt was WATERING CAN. My imagination ran a little wild but I figured you don't often see a giraffe watering can — so why not?!  More decorative, than practical, but if you look closely you will see the holes on his nose for the water spray.

  3. I wouldn't wish a bout of the doldrums on you, but your break seems to have stimulated your creativity ...welcome back and now my life won't be complete until I find a giraffe watering can in real life. Such a great idea, Serena! I hope you find a way to control your pain. My heart goes out to you, I know it can be so hard. Stay up and well, Serena, you are an important part of Scribble Picnic and you were missed.

  4. Serena dear, my heart hurts knowing you have been in so much pain and I do hope you will soon get some relief. You are just too young to be suffering with all this. Love the photo of you with the pretty bird - you are a beautiful lady. Belated birthday greetings.

I love the giraffe watering can - your whimsical imagination never ceases to surprise!
Take care - be well soon.

    1. Thanks so much, Mary! Unfortunately the back injury I sustained in 2003 sealed my fate...it's been a soft spot ever since and now age-related wear and tear is making things a whole lot worse. I won't let it beat me though. I'm glad you like the giraffe watering can. :)

  5. I join everyone else saying how it makes me sad to hear of your ongoing pain and trials. Life can give us pain and blessings....but pain can really do a number on us.

When you were being born in 1959 I was getting ready to graduate from High School and embark on my "adult" life. So Happy Birthday. 59 is a good year

I love your watering can...it would look so cute on my balcony.....

  11. Serena, I have a cockatiel too, and he always goes for the my earrings and glasses. And I can certainly commiserate with you about the pain. It's not fun. I hope that getting back to creating will get you in a better place to forget that pain. I am loving the giraffe watering can. That would be a real conversation piece.

    1. Thanks, Lorraine. Yes, Chico loves my necklace and earrings but sometimes he nips my skin as he picks up the necklace chain...not intentionally but it gives me a jolt. haha Chico can be a very noisy boy when he gets going. Is your cockatiel a boy or girl?

  13. Aw, I'm so sorry about your pain issues, Serena. We've discussed that some already so I get the incredible duress you are under there. Not easy for sure. As such, I really don't think you need to worry about staying caught up - no one's going to even expect it.

Ah yes, I love the giraffe watering can--perfect for reaching into plant with its long neck! As I noted on my IG, I was thinking of doing the same sort of thing too but must have forgot since ending up with a more typical rendition! ha.

Lovely to see the update to your blog and that new photo...but happened to all that long brown hair? Did the same person steal it who has been stealing mine too, but yanking them out at the root, no less! Still, you look fabulous and healthy- one would never know you had such pain issues to contend with.

    1. Thanks for the commiserations and understanding, Michael. I think it's great that you also considered a giraffe watering can. I had seen elephant ones but I wanted something different and a giraffe came to mind because of its long neck.

I'm assuming you mean the 'dyed' brown hair? haha Honestly, I hadn't seen my natural hair in over 30 years. I started greying in my early-30's which seems to be a trait on my Mum's side of the family. Towards the end of 2016, my scalp developed a sensitivity to the chemicals which made the choice to stop dyeing very easy for me. I do love my natural hair and wish I had transitioned sooner. :)

  17. Glad to see you back at the picnic whenever you can.
What fun it would be to use a watering can like this!
My husband suffers with back pain, as well as his knees, and I see how it wears him down.

  18. Sorry you've been struggling so. Hope you're managing to pick yourself back up, and that the pain isn't as bad.
