Sunrises, carrot cake and an imposter

It's been over three weeks since I last posted on my poor old blog. What can I say — not much has been happening of late apart from bad pain days, rest, and lots of reading. Sadly, not much sketching.

OH, and I've been doing some baking — banana cakes, ginger cakes with lemon icing, and even a carrot cake — the latter being my latest triumph in veganised recipes right down to the vegan 'cream-cheese' icing.  They were all delicious! I only managed to get a pic of the carrot cake because, when it comes to home-made treats in this house, I can tell you they have a habit of disappearing very quickly.

Yesterday did not get off to a good start when Bradley alerted me to the fact that someone was impersonating me on Instagram. This unscrupulous person had created a fake profile using my own profile pic with a similar username. They then Followed all the people who were Following MY own Instagram feed as, more often than not, especially if people think it's you, they will Follow you back. Well, some did follow the impostor back as they thought it was just me starting a new account. The impostor then sent out Direct Messages in the hope that people, thinking it was me, would click on a malicious link within the message.
Luckily, we got onto the issue quickly. I alerted my Followers via a post on Instagram. A few of my followers blocked and reported the offender to Instagram, as did I.  To Instagram's credit, they promptly removed the account before any real damage could be inflicted on my friends. It pays to be alert to how these impostors work.

Yesterday also happened to be Father's Day here in Australia. It's hard to believe it's been over three years since my Dad passed away at 82 years old. Father's Day just isn't the same without him here. I still miss him terribly. Here he is with Mum back in 2010.

We've had a few foggy mornings of late —

Taken on August 29th at 6am

An hour later with the sun making an appearance through the fog. I love the eerie feeling that comes with fogs.

This lovely pink sunrise was taken at the end of July

I love a cloudy sky too — especially a cotton ball sky. These were taken early August.

Some rain has been forecast until Friday which we do need. The gardens and lawns will love it!

I hope you all have a beautiful and blessed week.

Stay tuned for some upcoming book reviews...

  1. Ohhhh those treats must have been very yummy! I made a gingerbread cake last week and thought at the time, I'll freeze half for when the weather turns. . . but it never made it that far. Oh and I'm looking forward to your book reviews!

Keep all the best memories of your dad close by Serena. They are never far when we remember and honor them that way. :)

I am always amazed at the amount of effort people are willing to expend to try and pull of stunts like that with your Instagram. I mean, if they took that same time and put it into something positive and productive. . . following a true passion or desire. . . I can only imagine their lives are as dark and empty as their chosen pursuits. *sigh*

I LOVE fog too! I am watching it now at sunrise over the bay. It hovers just over the water today, making it look as if the distant hills are floating on it but, other days, it will blot out those hills completely making it appear as if the water just goes on forever. :)

Wishing you lovely, pain-free days ahead!

    1. Haha...yep, cakes never make it to the freezer in this house either. Thanks for your lovely comment, Nicolas. :)

  3. All of those treats sound delicious and the carrot cake looks scrumptious. That's awful having your identity stolen on Instagram. Glad you were on to it quickly and Instagram reacted quickly, too.

Was three years for my dad, too, in May. Sometimes it still feels like I should be able to pick up the phone and give him a call.

Love the fog, too. And those puff ball clouds we don't see here too often. Really cool!

I hope you get the rain. Have a great week! Love and hugs! :)

    1. That's right, we both lost our Dads within a month of each other. I think we will always miss them. xo

  4. Sorry you've been dealing with bad pain days, and an online imposter on top of that. Glad you've been getting plenty of reading in though.

The baked goods sound yummy. I love carrot cake! Care to share your vegan cream cheese recipe?

    1. Sorry for taking so long to reply, Tori. As my sons love the cream cheese icing, I make a fair amount of it. I simply beat together, 120g Sheeze vegan cream cheese and 1 tablespoon of vegan margarine, with 3 cups sifted icing sugar and a splash of vanilla essence. If you aren't big into icing, just halve the quantities. :)

    1. Well, the doctor tells me to take the non-inflammatory medication but it doesn't seem to help. I think I may have to go back to the doctor this week as I think the bursitis in my hip has returned. :( I am on the waiting list to see an orthopaedic specialist.
