the joy diet - week one - do nothing

for the first week in the joy diet by martha beck we were asked to 'do nothing' for fifteen minutes each day. that's right....nothing! not an easy thing to do in today's fast-paced world but, yes, i can handle that. i sure NEED it! in fact, i did get into a habit of daily meditation in november of last year but, in recent months, i had let it lapse. now, it has jumped right back into my lap again. i have meditated each morning for the past week and found it to be a very satisfying and meaningful experience. i hope to make it a permanent habit as i truly believe there are many benefits to meditating each day. care to join me?

pop on over to this link if you are interested in reading what other joy dieters had to say about doing nothing.

love, light and peace

  2. I'm glad you found the 15 minutes easy and refreshing and something you are going to make a regular habit of doing. Having done some regular meditating in the past you were able to draw on that and refresh yourself. Starting the Joy Diet was something you were called to in order to return to that practice.

Looking forward to exploring all about truth with you this week.

  3. So true, Serena! We need it. I know I do. Although my first steps are baby ones, I find that more than anything, I need the nothingness. It's soothing :)

I'm so happy we're on this journey together again! :)

  4. Hello serena,
    You have a lovely blog!
I also have been interested in meditation for a long time, I really got into it a few months ago and found it very beneficial, but then life kind of gets in the way and you stop doing it, I feel my mind resists doing it, it prefers to do art or potter about! But having to do it again has been good so far, I felt 15mins wasn't long enough for me though, needed extra time to unravel! Angie:)

  14. I am a firm believer of doing nothing for a period of time each day. Since I walk each morning, I use that as my meditating time. I guess you could say that I'm not actually doing 'nothing' since I am walking, but it works well for me.

  18. Thank you all for your supportive comments. :)

Beautiful Witch - I can't take credit for the Joy Diet book in the fridge....I used the one Jamie put up on her blog ~ :)

Tamerie - Your daily walking is definitely a form of meditation if it puts you 'in the zone'. I do that while I'm painting also. :)

  19. I just stumbled across the new book, & decided to join in again - have mine on order (should be here by friday!)
Just got some Moldevite, (crystal) which is said to highten dreams & help attune to the Universal Oneness - & dreamed of meditating! tee hee :)
Moving helps my mind slow down, so I find combining some slow movement with sitting helpful for me :)

    Blessings
