MONDAY PHOTO-A-WEEK

i wish i had better feeling photos to show you all today but, unfortunately, it's not the case. unbeknowns to us, we have been under attack from....TERMITES!!! we discovered their nest in the garage when i went to do some reorganising today and i totally freaked out! we use the garage for yard and household storage plus it also serves as my art room. the property manager has been notified and they are getting onto the home owner to seek approval to have the nest removed and any damage repaired. my concern is to what extent the damage will be as i've heard these little buggers can move through a house very fast. i guess i should take some of my own advice and not worry too much about it until we know for sure. there have been regular termite inspections, the last one being only two months ago so, hopefully, we've caught it early. i'm trying to stay positive. please wish us luck.

on top of that, my poor lavender plants that i bought last week are not looking too well at all. i think i may have had them in too shady an area as i've read that they love full sun. they have lost all their lovely, bright petals and seem to be wilting and drying out. yes, i have watered them though i'm sure the problem is due to lack of full sun. i have moved them to the very end of our front entrance where they will get more sun so, hopefully, they will recover.

i hope my next post will have better news to share

love, light and peace

  1. That looks aweful. I know the amount of damage termites can do. Hopefully you have caught it before it spread.
I think with lavenders the soil needs to be moist all the time. I too am having problems with my Azeleas. They are dying because we have not had enough rain and the ground is so dry. It just sucks in all the water that we pour. I know we love to have lovely weather but rain is also needed. Hmmm wish we could have best of both.

  2. think of where Lavender grows naturally - on the side of dry chalky hills in France.. they love heat and not too much water.. but also not allowed to dry out.. if they look sick, give them a prune, only a slight one and they may recover

best of luck with the termites.. yes, they can munch their way through quite alot of wood in a short time.. did you have any boxes or wood stacked near where they nested? My friend had a box near a wall and they began eating there because it was nice and dark.. let us know how it all goes!

  4. Well I'm no help with the lavender, mine isn't doing all that great either, but I'm hopeful.
Sorry about the termites. That's always a worry. We have regular inspections, too, which are expensive and you just wonder how thorough they are.

  6. Oh Serena how awful that you have termites in your garage. I really hope someone comes out and checks to see if they haven't spread anywhere else. :( Keeping my fingers crossed that you caught it in time.
I can't help you with your lavender plants but maybe you are watering them too much. Good luck with both issues.

  9. Ewww.... we battle termites constantly here in Florida. We get both the swarming kind and the subterrain types. We've had our house treated three times but they come back every year. One of the drawbacks of living in a tropical area, I guess.

Yes, lavender needs lots of full sun and frequent watering. Hope your's perks up now that you've moved them.

  10. Hi Serena,
Oh dear me, those termites have made quite a mess. I wonder if the last termite inspector did his job properly and missed this bit of your house or do they make that much damage in two months.
OMG< I hope they never visit me!
Try not to stress over this honey.

I think you are being way to kind to your lavender. I hardly water mine and it does get full sun, most of the day.

Have a bright and cheery day,
    Big Hugs,
    Anna

  12. That's incredible. I am glad we do not have them termites here in Ireland. Australia is so fauna hardcore in so many ways.

  13. I don't think termites are very common up here in the North country. At least I have never heard of anyone having them in my 58 years up here--so far, anyways. I can't imagine it's not possible, tho. They look like an awful thing to deal with! But since you just had an inspection recently, maybe they haven't gotten too far. Let us know what happens.

I know nothing about lavender, either. Maybe they don't need much water? I hope they are happier when they get more sun.

Life isn't always happy news, that's for sure. But it always gets better. :):)
