52 weeks of Me catch-up and news about upcoming surgery

more self-portraits which i've taken over the past few weeks.  unfortunately, i missed out on week 22 due to being sick but i've decided to continue anyways.

WEEK 21 - here i am in, tilly, my car

WEEK 23 - here i am holding mikayla in the newly refurbished parents room at the local shopping centre
a hazy pic as the lighting was very low and i couldn't use the flash

WEEK 24 - on my bed with cody

MEDICAL UPDATE - i saw the gynaecologist on friday and, due to some abnormalities on my ultrasound, i will be having a diagnostic hysteroscopy, dilation and curettage in the next 30 days.  it will be a day surgery as long as there are no complications.  i am so NOT looking forward to it but i guess i don't have another option.  i can only pray that they don't find anything serious.  please wish me luck.

on top of that, the doctor wants me to see a rheumatologist to confirm whether or not i have rheumatoid arthritis.  my blood test came back negative but the deterioration in my hand Xray does suggest i have it. apparently, 80% of RA sufferers show the RA factor in the blood, while 20% don't, so i may be in that 20%.  i'm holding off on the rheumatologist for now until i get this other stuff sorted out.

i am still not over this rotten asthma and the constant deep coughing certainly puts a drain on my system and leaves me feeling quite depressed.   the doctor gave me antibiotics but, as yet, they haven't helped much.  i hope i'm over it before my surgery date.

i've still had no urge to paint or draw but i have been knitting up some bootees for mikayla and some bed socks for the boys. pics to follow in a future post....

~ love, light and peace ~

  2. You take great photos Serena! I don't like being in front of a camera at all--this would be hard for me--you're a natural.
So sorry to hear about your medical issues, but good to know that your taking care of them. I had the D & C about 10 years ago--nothing to it. Hope all goes well--good thoughts for you!

  3. Dear Serena, I sure will be having some prayers for you. Once I had done this D and C, as they call here. I was in and out of the hospital on the same day. After one day or two you are new again!
Don't worry too much. Be strong and keep yourself rested.
    take care my dear.

  4. Oh Sweetie! Hang in there. I hope your cough lets up or they might not be able to do the surgery, right? Being sick and miserable till it feels like you'll never feel well can totally wear your spirit down, I know. Especially when you have medical questions hanging over your head. All you can do is pamper yourself, rest, knit, and cuddle with Cody and Mikayla. Sending prayers, good thoughts, and healing energy your way. *hugs-hugs-hugs*

  5. Hi Serena, so sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. It all takes its toll and can be draining on the soul. I've had several surgeries on my cervix due to precancerous cells -- I'm overdue for a checkup so need to go. When are you scheduled for your procedure? Hope your asthma will ease up. And that you find some relief for your hands too. No telling what my left hand would look like under an xray -- I've had injuries to my thumb and index finger that still cause me problems at times. :/ My summer holiday has officially begun. Hope to get lots done. At least that's the plan. :) Sending hugs your way, Tammy

  6. Serena, This is what I went through last year. The procedure is not bad so you'll be ok. In my case they did find really early cancer cells and I ended up having a hysterectomy and recovered just fine. My hope for you is that they find nothing at all. You're in my prayers. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. I've been doing some spinning and knitting too. I'd love to see your work. With all you are going through knitting can be a real solace.

    Hugs,
    Kate

  11. Serena, Sorry to hear you are still a bit under the weather. Prayers that D&C goes well for you.
I have been coughing up a storm for a long time too. You are right it is depressing. Now the Dr. wants to test for allergies since all other areas are OK. ARGH! Always something isn't it?
The pictures are beautiful Serena like you!

  13. Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone. I've had a D&C before but this is not the normal D&C...this one they will be taking scrapings for testing to see what's causing the abnormalities. I just pray there aren't any cancerous cells. It's a waiting game, I guess.

    Love to all,
    Serena xo

  14. Such lovely relaxed photos.

Major Bummer about the health issues. Hope you can bounce back quickly. If it is RA, I swear by HUMIRA injections (even if my teenage son had to inject me this week - I'm too chicken). They have changed my life.

    White light beaming your way...

    Cheers,

    Cindy

  15. Dearest Serena,

I will keep you in my prayers for sure. When I was in the hospital for the diverticulitis, the CAT scan also showed that my cervix was large. I had an ultra sound there in the hospital and all was fine. Rest up now and be good to yourself (as I know you already are!). Rest and relaxation helps to get through these things so much better. I love the photos!!!

  16. Hi Cindy,

Thanks for the well wishes. My Mum was diagnosed with RA many years ago and she has tried different medications over the years. She coudn't take Gold injections or methotrexate as they both affected the liver. She has been on Prednisone and Fosamax for years now and still gets flare ups...you know how it goes. I've never heard of Humira injections but I'll be sure to mention them to Mum, thanks. I'm glad it is working for you.
