In the Artist's Play Room this week, we talk about the things that inspire us.
What inspires my art?
What inspires my art?
I find so many things to be inspiring....the sea, nature, animals...
Then there is the internet, more precisely the amazing artists I have met online.
Their creativity also inspires me tremendously.
I haven't painted a realistic painting for the longest time but that's not to say I won't again.
Every time I see a painting of an animal, I feel a yearning within to put brush to canvas.
One day, I know I will....
I enjoy painting flowers too.
Nature is a great inspiration!
I discovered illustrated journaling a couple of years ago and it has become my main focus in art.
I absolutely LOVE sketching and adding colour to my journals.
There's just something special to me about sketching, then adding some words,
either about what I've sketched or about my day.
I have met many other illustrated journal artists
who have inspired me greatly in this area.
A recent journal entry
There are so many things I feel motivated to do regarding my art,
thanks to all the wonderful inspiration that surrounds me.
My biggest foe is procrastination but I'm working hard to beat it.

theres that P-word... I do that with most things, and maybe tomorrow... has become a mantra of mine! I love your real life paintings - they are amazing Serena!
ReplyDeleteYes, that P word can be a real drag! Thanks for your kind words, Krissie. xo
DeleteOh, I do so love your realistic work, but I also love your journal pages and mixed media. You're just so talented! You inspire others--like me. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Rita! xo
DeleteI've always loved your journal sketching. Your work is always wonderful Serena. You are a fantastic artist. Hope you are doing good. Take care. Beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gloria! I'm thinking of joining in the weekly Haiku with you. :)
DeleteSerena, I was flabbergasted that the image of the dog in the blanket wasn't a photograph! And then the bird too! Of course I was familiar with some of your journaling, which I love, but somehow missed (or had forgotten) how incredible your realistic work is. WOW!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ruca! I'm glad you like my realistic art too....much appreciated. x
DeleteI feel inspired just looking at your work today! Wonderful to see so many examples of your work all in one post. I especially loved the cheeky parrot!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa! :)
Deletei keep meaning to do something for this group, but the week goes by too fast :/
ReplyDeletei really like your paintings, but i think your sketch work shows more of who you are and the things around you :)
It sure does, Jennifer! It would be lovely if you joined us.
DeleteGood point....my illustrated journals are more about my personal life experience.
Hi Serena..super gorgeous art..your pieces are stunning and alive..vibrant and magical..they almost seem like photographs they are so real..stunning and brilliant! Your journals are beautiful too..fantastic works!
ReplyDeleteVictoria
Thanks, Victoria! I appreciate you dropping by....I love your vibrant, spiritual work too!
DeleteWow, that's why I can't charge much for my pet pics, they are nowhere near yours. I'm in love with the lorikeet, he's just gorgeous and that dog on the blanket would have sent me blind. Your journal picture is so beautiful and the words are too. I'm glad you are recovering well, hope you will be 100% very soon.
ReplyDeleteVon.
I respectfully disagree, Von.....watercolour is quite different to acrylics and your animal portraits are just as lovely. OH, and yes, I was a bit googly-eyed while painting the doggy blanket. lol
Deleteyou have such a great eye for colour and form... I find it inspiring coming here and seeing your journals especially... every single time I visit I vow to do more work in my sketchbooks, of course I am bloody hopeless and only get around to it now and again, but without your inspiration I don't think I would manage even that!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Trace! You inspire me too! xo
DeleteYour paintings are some of my favorites but I also enjoy your journal sketches, too. And like you, procrastination is one of my worst enemies. I always say I have good intentions but my folllow through is horrible!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janet! I think procrastination plagues a lot of artists but we WILL beat it!!!
DeleteYour art is a HUGE inspiration, Serena! I love your flower paintings shared here--that hibiscus flower is GORGEOUS!! I've been doing more art journalling this year, which I should get round to sharing more of. Hope you are keeping well there... Lovely to catch up with you after a brief hiatus! Happy Weekend (HUGS))
ReplyDeleteThanks, Tracy! I'm glad to hear you've been getting more art journaling done....I'm looking forward to seeing your pages!
