Roz Stendahl's Sketchbook Skool klass encouraged us to sketch animals,
whether they be model figurines, animals toys, or the real thing.
I did some quick pen sketches of Aaron's budgies,
not looking for perfection but rather loose and messy.
not looking for perfection but rather loose and messy.
Budgies are not an easy subject being that they don't stay in one spot for long at all.
The reason we practise sketching fast is because animals in the wild
don't strike a pose for us so it's handy to quickly note gestures etc.
Maelik is the blue budgie in the background.

Bella is the yellow one and Jacob, the green.
Blogger is misbehaving something terrible tonight!
It's taking forever to upload just one photo. :(
I only hope that it allows me to publish this post when I'm done.
A splash of watercolours to give it a bit of a lift.
I sketched this one back in 2012 and obviously took a little more time with it.
You'll note that Surya has had a name change since then
and is now known as Bella.
Linking up today with Sunday Sketches and Artists Play Room.
Great sketches..which I know is hard to do from a constantly moving object.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carol. xo
DeleteYOu did a beautiful beautiful job on these!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sandy. xo
Deletesweet drawings. I think the time constrain makes your drawing more spontaneous & certainly more fun.
ReplyDeletevisiting from sunday sketch, hope you have a great day.
Thanks, Lissa. I'm liking the more loose and free sketches too. :)
DeleteThey're wonderful! I find birds difficult to capture on camera as reference, to be able to capture them sketching is impressive indeed!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lisa. They are not an easy subject, that's for sure. :)
DeleteBudgies, or parakeets, are very fidgety, so I'm truly impressed you did such an amazing job capturing them. The finished ones from 2012 are simply exquisite, Serena. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Arnoldo....they certainly are fidgety. :)
DeleteBirds are great to watch and draw.
ReplyDeleteMerle........
Yes they are, Merle. :)
DeleteYour birds' sketches are beautiful. The 2012 page is stunning. Are you sketching on a moleskin? I am hearing so much about Sketchbook Skool. Hope to take it someday
ReplyDeleteSusan
Thanks, Susan. Yes, the fast sketch was done in a pocket Moleskine journal; the sketch at the bottom was done in a Moleskine watercolour notebook. :)
DeleteThe birds are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie. :)
Deletethe drawing of the budgies looks great :D it can be so difficult to draw animals, especially if they spot food in the distance :p
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen. OH yes, dogs in particular are hard to sketch when food is served. hehe
DeleteThey look great! I think I like the quick one best but both are so well done. I'm so jealous of everyone taking sketchbook skool! :)

Thanks, Melisa. Sketchbook Skool is so much fun...maybe you will sign up one day as I think they plan to run regular courses. :)
DeleteWow! I really like the loose fast sketches from your class! You must be having so much fun--because it is coming through your hand to the page. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rita. I am thoroughly enjoying all the lessons. xo
