I'm running behind schedule for this week's Scribble Picnic. YIKES!
Michael chose the theme - LADYBIRD/LADYBUG.
Being from British and Irish background, we were brought up calling these delightful insects, Ladybirds. If ever we were lucky enough to have one land on us, we would say the rhyme -
Ladybird, Ladybird,
Fly away home,
Your house is on fire,
And your children will burn.
Miraculously, the said Ladybird would usually fly away, as if on cue.
There was a another popular ending where all of her children perished except for one called Ann. I preferred the version where the little Ladybird still had a chance to save all her little ones.
For the past week, all I could see in my mind's eye, was a realistic ladybird to draw for the theme until yesterday when an idea suddenly popped into my head.
A little girl lying in the grass and having a ladybird land on her nose. She was delighted, of course. I am thoroughly enjoying the process of sketching what I see in my head. I don't get it exact but it's fun trying.
As I ran out of time, you only get the rough pencil sketch version for now but I promise to finish her off and post the end result next week.
I'm excited to see what my fellow Picnickers have come up with for this week's theme. You can check them out HERE.
Next week's theme is CURTAIN. Why not come along to one of our 'picnics' and join in on the fun. To find out how, click HERE. Hope to see you there.
I did do another Ladybird last year when I did a month of calendar sketches. I thought you might like to see it.

Scribble Picnic: Fill in the blank
Hi everyone,
This week's Scribble Picnic was a little bit tricky as Michael gave us the following image to create from and we were to fill in the blank so-to-speak.
So, the brainstorming began with some very rough sketches...
At first, I was thinking a ten pin bowling lane
Then a bunch of lollipops
Then...what began as a mouse holding up a bar-bell but I drew right over the top of it so it looked more like some type of mutant. haha I did do another sketch to clarify what I had settled on...a frog! Although it looks more like a cross between a turtle's head and a frog's head in the sketch. Bear in mind, I was sketching entirely from imagination.
Then finally, I followed up with a fresh sketch and some colour with Prismacolor pencils...also looking more like a frog.
I did do a wash of watercolour over the top which I regretted because I feel like I lost some definition. Ah well, we live, we learn... At least I can rectify it when I have time.

Next week, the theme is Ladybug/Ladybird...why not come along and join in on the fun? To find out how, click HERE. I'm looking forward to seeing what my Picnic pals have done for this week.
Wishing you all a lovely week ahead.

Scribble Picnic - Watermelon
Hi everyone,
It's Scribble Picnic time again and, this week, Michael chose WATERMELON for the theme. Who doesn't love watermelon?
The following image popped into my mind and wouldn't leave until I put pen to paper.
Uh oh! This mouse took on more than he bargained for when the watermelon he was pushing home picked up speed going down the hill. He hopped aboard to try and slow the melon down but it turned into a very scary ride instead. YIKES!
It's not finished yet but I'm pleased I was able to get some colour on it using Prismacolour colouring pencils.

Last week, the theme was fox and this was as far as I'd managed....
As promised, here is the final result for those of you who don't follow me on Instagram
