Sunday musings....albeit a day late

It seems I'm always running late of late and I don't really have a good excuse except to say I've been feeling down with this chronic pain thing. That said, there are so many people worse off than me so I try not to complain.

It's been a rainy few days and the rain is forecast to continue into next week. Don't get me wrong — I love the rain! We sure do need it and the gardens are loving it! The grass is finally greening up again, whereas last week, the grass/lawn was a dry yellow-brown.

And look, we even have toadstools popping up.

I'm sure there is a fair bit of water building up in the creek that runs through the bushland at the end of the street too. All needed, of course.
That said, I must admit that any more than three days of constant heavy rain starts to feel all gloomy to me, especially indoors. It IS perfect weather for reading books, watching movies, and Netflix though! We watched the whole set of the Harry Potter movies again.  I've also been binge-watching the new Netflix series — The Haunting of Hill House. It IS good! As timing would have it, I recently finished the book before I even knew the series existed. I will be talking about the book in tomorrow's Reviews post so be sure to check that out. In case you're wondering — yes — the series has strayed from the book.

I've also been watching some online art classes since my last post. I absolutely loved Ian Sidaway's klass via Sketchbook Skool! I sketched him in ballpoint and fountain pen while I watched his Q&A video with Koosje Koene.  Click HERE if you're interested in checking out his blog.

I decided against participating in INKtober this year. I just wasn't in the right head space to put more pressure on myself. I have been getting a little sketching done here and there though.
This is a VW Beetle that I've been planning on sketching for a while now.  It's still a work in progress.

I do plan on adding colour, just not sure which colour yet.

This wet weather is making me crave soup. I made this delicious split pea and veggie soup the other week so may make up another pot. It lasts Brad and me three dinners. I LOVE soup with buttered bread or bread rolls!  Vegan butter, of course.

I'll leave you with a snap of my ever faithful companion — Cody doing what he does best — sleeping.

Don't forget to check out my Book Reviews tomorrow....

  1. I put The Haunting of Hill House in my queue. :) It's the right time of year, I guess, for some spooky stuff.

It does look like it has greened up around there a lot. We've had below freezing weather but it is so early we have green grass, too.

I like the VW bug. My dad had one. I was trying to remember what color it was. Was very light but I can't remember if it was a pale tan or blue or what it was now. I'm thinking pale baby blue. Funny how if enough years go by your memory can get a little fuzzy around the edges. ;)

Ian's class sounds interesting. I like his journal sketching on his blog!

The soup looks like I could dive right into it. Definitely soup weather over here.

Aww! Cody! Don't get to see him enough. Or Jack. :)

It is still Sunday over here. ;) I haven't been feeling very good, myself. I hope you have a good week.
    *love and hugs*

    1. Yep, Halloween is just around the corner.

Yes, I vaguely recall that some of the VW Beetles came in a pale blue colour. I'm thinking I may go with that colour. Yes, we do get a little fuzzy on some memories while others can still remain very vivid.

I must post more pics of Cody and Jack when he's not running from the camera that is. hehe

Sorry to hear you haven't been well either. Sending healing vibes your way, my friend. xo

  3. Always love a VW bug. No rain for us yet; my weather app currently says "fog" but it's definitely a dust storm rolling in. :/ Had to turn off the a/c because the cold was making my knees and ankles ache .. we've had high humidity for several days. Maybe the dust will soak it all up. :) Soup is always good in my book. Kisses for Cody!

    1. Thanks, Tammy! They sure have character, don't they? I still miss my VW Kombi van that I had many years ago. OH no on the dust storm. I think they are something you would have to endure but never get used to? I hope the pain in your knees and ankles ease off sooner than later.

  4. It was still Sunday when this arrived in my inbox (though it's Monday now). Ah time differences... Don't you just love them. ;)

Glad you've been getting some much needed rain. Hope you get some sunny days to break it up though.

Watching the Harry Potter movies again is always a good thing to do. Glad you've also been finding other great things to watch.

I've been reading your review posts, even though I only commented on the one.

Good call on the Inktober challenge. Just do what you can and enjoy it for now. :)

    1. OH yes, time zones can really mess with the mind. I love the Harry Potter movies! I was a late comer and would only see snippets when my kids watched the earlier movies. Then, I took Brad — a huge Potter fan — to the cinema to watch the latest movie at that time and I was hooked from that point on. I eagerly read all the books too. Loved them!

  5. you cant compare your chronic pain to anyone elses, its not a case of that person has it worse, its simply a case of you are in pain all the time and how that pain effects you effects your life. chronic pain, no matter the root cause is horrible to deal with and I wish there was something that could help you :) no matter the source of the pain, its horrible to deal with

    1. Very true, Jennifer. Pain does impact each of us from a personal standpoint and I shouldn't compare. Chronic pain does get me down. I know you understand as you deal with chronic pain too.

  6. I hope your pain gets better Sarena. Wet weather somehow makes it feel even worse. Yes constant rain is not something i enjoy either but at least in your part of the world it is warm rain this time of the year. Having grown up in India the constant beating of rain on the roof tops is so annoying however as you say rain brings with it the washed freshness to everything.
That soup looks perfect for a rainy day meal.
    Your sketch is lovely.

  7. That is a lovely sketch. Somehow rains always seem to aggravate pain more. Having grown up in India can understand the constant rain depressing bit. Howver the good side of it is it does freshen up and give a washed feeling to every thing. That soup looks delicious and a perfect meal for a rainy day. Hope you feel better soon.
