Challenge #5 was to Draw My Bed - My quilt is a silky type of fabric with a sheen and I tried to achieve the sheen in my sketch. A couple of errors are glaringly obvious to me (why do I notice them AFTER the fact?) but I'm staying hush on those. lol

EDM #14 was to Draw what I see when I wake up - My ceiling fan is usually the first thing I see when I wake up and, funnily enough, I've had the urge to draw it for some time now so it was the perfect match to the challenge. However, I certainly regretted starting this sketch because I found the perspective very difficult. The nicest part was that I got to lie on my comfortable bed whilst drawing it. :)
I'm hoping to get some painting done today. It's been too long ~

Serena both of these drawings are fabulous!
I particulalry like the drawing of your bed. You really managed the sheen of the satin bedspread rather well!
I think I wouldn't have known how to do that bit.
The bed is just wonderful. the other drawings too. Keep on going.
feel free to visit my blog: http://zeichnenmachtspass.blogspot.com/
Both are wondderful! We have almost identical fans here. I especially love the sheen on the bed - and good idea not to point out mistakes, I can't see any!!
Tnank you, Bonny, Meinhild and Felicity for your lovely comments.
NIce work Serena!
Beautiful drawings Serena - the sheen on the bed is just lovely, and I don't know how you managed to capture the perspective on the fan so well while lying down but it's perfect. Great job!
Wow the bed is shaded perfectly and the fan is really good also - Very Nice.
Lovely work Serena. I love your bed drawing; especially the light on the duvet.
These are such cool drawings!!!
:)
I like your style! I notice that u copyright every drawing-is being an artist your day job? signed, quite curious!
Thank you Maggie, drb, Sandy, stapeliad and Andrea! :)
Thanks, juj! I guarantee that capturing the perspective of the fan was done with great difficulty. lol
Thanks, Jan! Searen Art and Design is my registered business name so yes, my art is kinda my day job on top of being full-time carer to my eldest son. I also teach art classes each week in my home studio. Unfortunately, I have had someone 'steal' my work before and it's not a nice feeling so, even though I make a note of my work being copyrighted in my Blog heading, I've become quite paranoid about backing up the message. At first, I thought who would be interested in taking any of my simple sketches anyways without permission but it's happened before so once bitten, twice shy, I suppose. :(
Serena, these are lovely. The color of the spread and the shine you captured are just perfect!
OH MY GOSH!! That bedspread literally SHINES!! ITS AWESOMELY DONE!
Always love seeing your lovely drawings.
Lots of love from Susan in Australia
Love the sheen on your quilt AND the perspective on your fan. Both are great challenge pieces!
Oh my, did you ever capture that sheen! Both of these are wonderfully done!
Thank you everyone for your wonderful comments! It truly makes my day when people take the time to leave a comment on my blog. :)
Great drawings, Serena. Love the one of your bed. You pulled off the silky, satiny shine perfectly.
Thanks, Sherie! There's a lot I need to learn about working with coloured pencils but I'm enjoying adding a splash of colour to my sketches with them. :)
These are great. That bed is so crisp! The large view shows off the pencil work nicely.
Thank you, Martha ~ :)
Your colors are lovely. I like the look of the pen and the colored pencils together.
Thank you, Kate ~ :)
The sheen is perfect Serena.
Thanks, Anita! :)
These are both excellent drawings, Serena! I'm not the first one to notice, but the shine on the quilt is perfect - and I don't see any perspective problems with the ceiling fan.
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me a comment when you have so much going on in your own life right now, Casey. It's very much appreciated ~ :)
just lovely drawings!
These are awesome. I love the intense blue in the first one. :)
Thanks, Lauren. I love the blue also :)
