It's been a rough week with neck issues causing constant headaches.
Unfortunately, I'm still not recovered from that fall where I accidentally
slammed the side of my neck against the edge of a storage box five weeks ago.
I finally got around to seeing the doctor today and he's given me an X-ray
referral. It could just be soft-tissue damage which takes time to heal but,
being that I have disc-degeneration in my neck, he just wants to make sure all
is as it should be.
So, I have been doing more work on my girl from last week where I only managed
a rough graphite drawing (below).
As this is in a sketchbook that doesn't have very thick paper, I had a bit of
a dilemma. On the backside of the paper was my giraffe drawing and I was
worried about bleed-through if I were to use watercolours on the girl.
So I opted to do a very light wash of yellow/gold watercolour —
no bleed-through — and let it dry thoroughly before progressing
with only ballpoint pens. I love that ballpoint pens comes in a variety of
colours nowadays.
You will notice bleed-though from the previous watercolour sketch I did which
is why, with the plan to use darker colours for the girl, I didn't want
to risk ruining my giraffe. I hope to disguise those bleed-through areas as I
work more into the design. I'm kinda winging it as I go.
She is still very much a work-in-progress as there is lots more to do — slowly
getting there. I may have her finished for Friday Face Off next week.

Very nice, Serena. The hair looked like a modern style in the photo with just the bangs and one side lock. (grin)
ReplyDeleteHi Serena, she is just beautiful. Thank you for joining Friday Face Off. FFO. I am sorry that the link up isn't working for you. There are a few other's it won't accept too. I am working on the problem but if you leave a comment I will link up for you. I am so sorry. I am impressed that you hand wrote it in. Have a very lovely day today.
ReplyDeleteHi Serena, your face is beautiful, love how you made it! Have a great weekend, Valerie
ReplyDeletenot that im glad you are in pain but hopefully the xray doesnt show any problems
ReplyDeleteSorry about the pain Serena. Lovely portrait for the face off
ReplyDeleteI hope you can get the xray soon. So sorry you are still hurting. :(
ReplyDeleteClever way to not ruin your beautiful giraffe on the other side and she is turning out just gorgeous! :)
She's gorgeous Serena! Her lips are divine, you attention to detail in the shading is really admirable!!! I love the medium you used! I sure hope your neck will be okay. Constant pain, headaches...that's no way to live, I've been there! Wishing you good health! ♥
ReplyDeleteTo answer your questions...I'm not sure the anti-d's will be temporary for Dana. (This is insider information, but as I type this, I'm preparing to drive to the shelter to adopt another dog!!) I think Dana needs extra help because any little changes make him crazy. Even if I move furniture, he gets terribly anxious. The meds are really helping him, and we hope after a few months to start reducing the dose a little at a time and see how he's doing.
That drawing I did of me...no paint brushes or easels!!! ☺ You're right, it's for the kitchen and garden channel! ☺☺
I hope they don't find anything horribly wrong Serena, but I also hope that he stiffness and headaches go away very very soon. And your girl is looking amazing. I like the addition of the seashell necklace. And I find it interesting that the way you colored her makes her look older than the initial sketch. Not older, but no longer a girl really. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Mum!
ReplyDeleteHopefully your sore neck is just soft-tissue needing time to heal rather than any damage to any discs. Not good that you're still dealing with pain and headaches constantly. Hopefully you'll get better soon if it is just soft-tissue.
I love your girl sketch! She is coming along nicely. I look forward to seeing her complete! Not good about the bleed-through issues on thin paper, that would be frustrating and I can understand your worries about the giraffe. That's great that ballpoint pens come in many colours these days!
I hope you have a great week! Love Brad xoxo
I apologize for being so late visiting from Friday Face Off, Serina. My computer died after being hit by a lightening strike. I am finally back online.
ReplyDeleteSorry to read you are still in pain. I hope you learn some good news this week.
Your girl is beautiful. I am sure she will be incredibly stunning when you finish her.
wow, that is so striking ...love the colors and the style. Sure hope you heal up quick. That kind of pain is no fun!!
