Rear-ended!!!!!

Yesterday my daughter, Michelle, came over for an art lesson and we decided to take a run to Spotlight as she also wants me to sew her a skirt and needed to buy fabric. Well, there I was behind the wheel of my car, Tilly, waiting for a break in traffic on a busy road so that I could pull out of the side street safely when......BANG!......the car behind rear-ended me!!! Why don't people pay attention???!!! We both pulled our cars off the road to inspect the damage and, before I got out of my car, I took some deep breaths and calmed the inner part of me who was desperate to jump out of the car and scream abuse at the woman. After all, why should I have been the one to look like a ranting, raving lunatic when it was she who was clearly in the wrong? Surprisingly, there was no damage to either vehicle. I accepted her apology and we mutually agreed no harm was done and went on our merry way. She certainly did strike my daughter and I as being a little on the strange side though and we are still baffled by her words, "It's just one of those woman accidents". What the heck is THAT suppose to mean?! Isn't that an insult to women drivers everywhere??? What, men are never involved in rear-end accidents?

I'll leave you today with a couple more sketches from my sketchbook.

  1. Serena,
What a weird accident. She must have been off in neverland.. Never mind, just be grateful nothing happened. Be sure to keep an eye on yourself and daughter, whiplash can sometimes have a delayed reaction... Love the new sketches...Ro

  2. Thanks for the concern, Ro. I'm very grateful that it wasn't more serious. The woman had just allowed her car to roll forward into mine so there wasn't a huge jolt to Tilly which is a good thing because I've been dealing with a lot of upper shoulder/neck pain of late and whiplash wouldn't have gone down to well. Glad you liked the sketches, thanks....Serena

  3. Strange accident, but then again there are never coincidences. I'm glad Tilly was ok!!!!

I love that sketch of the porcelain figure. It looks like a fashion sketch.

  4. It was odd that there was not even a scratch on either car, not that I was hoping for dents and scratches, mind you. lol Michelle and I were actually wondering if there was a message in the accident for us. At the time the accident occurred, we were in the midst of talking about Tilly and when I was going to get my mechanic to check her over so maybe I should get Tilly in for a check sooner than later? The woman's comment still has me stumped though....maybe a message lies there?

Thanks for the compliment on my figurine sketch. She's a collectible that a friend gifted to me some years ago and I was tickled to see that the makers of the figurine gave her the same name as mine.....Serena :)

  5. Well, if you take a look at feminine energy, it is fluid, soft, and strong. Also it is generally nurturing and encourages peace.

So you had a peaceful accident...gentle, with no harm caused. So I'd say that "one of those woman accidents" was a very good thing.

    :)

  6. Good point, Stapeliad. I'd actually thought along those lines too but discounted it as the woman's mannerism didn't seem to indicate that wavelength...but it certainly was a peaceful, no harm done accident. I'm very relieved at the outcome. :)

  9. I'm glad no one was hurt, and it was indeed a strange thing to say. You are so very talented and your work is full of life and energy. Amazing detail. It always amazes me that painters can get that kind of detail with a BRUSH! I love looking at your work.

  11. the only car accident I was ever involved in was when my car and I were totalled.... back in '72 ... and it was an 18 year old male in his uncle's truck that hit me and hit me hard. The day was perfect ... visibility could not have been better...the road was long and straight...I could see him coming (in my rear view mirror) for over a quarter of a mile. I was waiting ...stopped...behind a car trying to turn left. I thought it looked like he was moving pretty fast...but, the road was narrow enough there was nowhere for me to pull out and get off even if I had wanted to... he never even applied brakes. HIt my little MGB sports car with his big truck and was up and over me before I knew it. Oh, what am I saying? I KNEW it alright...I thought he had broken my back and neck not to mention my knees, ankles and face which were screaming right along with me. Both of my thumbs were dislocated hanging onto the steering wheel, knees scraped when they hit the steering column and dashboard...face bruised hitting the steering wheel...feet and ankles wrecked between the brake and gas pedals....

The back of the driver's seat had broken off on impact..and shoved me up against the steering wheel..but, I was still in the lap belt (which cars had in those days ) so my low back was pretty damaged. I didn't walk for almost a year. My car was crushed to about half the original size. I know if I could have moved I would have killed that guy... as a matter of fact..if I were to see him today...I would still kill him.
I was screaming and swearing so loud they could hear me for miles. It took years of rehab and mostly on my own..because there just wasn't anything like they have today ...no information, no knowledgeable physio..no massage... no helpful doctors ... and ...my practically new car was a write-off.... insurance gave me enough to buy a used VW..... there you have my sad story.... no woman drivers involved in that one... and Greg has only one accident as well.... a man again.. who spun out of control in front of him...and he couldn't stop and couldn't dodge the guy's car..so slid into him at slow speed on ice... but, still...plenty of damage to both vehicles..... men drivers ... humpf!
