january photo a day & decorated journals

yesterday afternoon, the rains came.....aaron and i were out at the time and, on getting home, just running the short distance from the car to the covered front awning, had us both drenched through. it continued through the night and into the morning. it was HEAVEN!!! the lawn has been like straw so, hopefully, it will now green up a bit. we have been in drought conditions for years and under strict water restrictions...we aren't allowed to water lawns, just gardens. hoses are forbidden...it's strictly watering by bucket only, once a week for an hour....so every drop of rain we get is precious. the drenching rain left us with a very muggy, humid and hot day....something i'm not fond of at all.

on another note, here are some pics of the journals i decorated last week. these were orders. i purchased spiral bound notebooks, covered them with decorative papers, added wool fibres to the spiral spine and attached some decorations. i also made matching bookmarks.

  1. OH MY! I ADORE ♥ your journals!♥ Are you selling them, woman? Etsy? Come on! I drooled! :)

YAY for rain. One of my favorite things about rain is how fresh everything smells. Or the smell of rain in the air. Lovely.

Thank you so much Serena for your wonderful and supportive comments on my blog. I deeply appreciate them. Hugs! :)

  2. Beautiful journals! I really like that idea of covering the spiral binding with ribbons - I always hate the spirals. I have a question, does the journal still open and lay flat?

  5. Isn't that rain a glorious site during drought times? We have been in a drought for two years and I sure love how the grass will green up a bit after a rain. I am hoping we come out of our drought this year and have green grass all the time.

    Thje journals are so pretty!

  7. I LOVE those journals. So creative and you pick perfect colors and decorative items.

Glad you got a little relief from the drought. We are getting much needed rain too. Nothing heavy, just light to moderate but I think we have two more storms lined up. We need it so bad here too.

  9. I am surprised that all those beautiful flowers you have been showing us have been flourishing during a drought! Amazing!

I am also curious as to whether the journals lie flat with all the yarn on the spirals. They are sooo pretty! :)

  13. Living as I do in a land of abundant rainfall, I can't even begin to imagine how refreshing that rain must have been. How wonderful, like a long drink of water when you're really thirsty.

And I agree with everyone else -- your journals are really special.

  18. Serena, it is really hot here too and so dry.. the grass crunches when I walk on it. Our tanks are nearly empty too.. that is what I have been watering my garden with.. hopefully we will get some rain soon. There is nothing better than that smell of summer rain. Next time it rains, I am going outside and standing in it with my arms open wide!!

and the journals are gorgeous. It must be so satisfying to sell your art work. Well done!
