AEDM - Day 16 - Fiddle Leaf Fig houseplant

My son gave me this beautiful Fiddle Leaf Fig plant
for Mother's Day back in May.

I'm actually surprised I haven't killed it yet.
I tend to overwater potted plants and I read that
the Fiddle Leaf Figs don't like wet feet.

Here it is in our dining room

A few days ago  I was thrilled to see a new leaf!
The first one since I've had this beauty.

So naturally I had to sketch it

A pencil and pen sketch to start

Then plotting some colour variations with watercolour

End result.
I could fiddle more, pun intended, with it but I'm calling it done.

It's been quite a warm muggy day here in Brissie. Forecasts said we would be getting higher than average temps for this time of year. They weren't wrong. We actually got to use our air-conditioning for the first time. Heaven!

I'm off to comment on some blogs.

Stay safe and well.

Love, Light, and Peace to All.

  1. A beautiful painting of your lovely plant. I don't think I have ever heard of it. I just loved the plants and birds in Australia and the first thing I did was to go out and buy identification books on them.
    Have a good week.

  2. What a gorgeous plant. I don't think I've seen a fiddle leaf fig before. And it makes a great sketch in your drawing journal too. I have a weeping fig plant myself that is ancient. My mother got it for me when I was in college about 40 years ago! Happy new week.

  4. I had one of those fiddle leaf fig plants until I put it outside one April and we had a sudden freeze the first of May. ALL my plants froze and died. I was so sick, I never replaced any of them. I absolutely love what you have created today. AND, your plant looks really healthy, too.

  5. interesting, I saw a plant just like this one the other day in a shop. A fiddle leaf tree? I did not catch the name of the one I saw. But I really like your drawing and coloring of it :)
    Take care!

  8. Serena,

I don't do well with plants, either. I'm glad yours is surviving thus far. I love your sketch and watercolor design - great job!
